Well after years of wishing I had a 20th, and months and months of searching for the right one, I finally found it. Found this gem in Delaware at a VW dealer.. I took the 2 hour trip from NJ and brought her home. The car is mint, and was babied for years, it only has 20,000 miles on it. People find it hard to believe its a 2003.

Number 0380 - Not sure if the original owner or even the 2nd owner are on the vortex, but that'd be cool to know.

Here's a couple quick cell phone pics for now.

Thank you guys, It was almost too good to be true when I found it. The interior looks like it was never touched, as does the exterior for the most part (couple chips on the front lip and near wheel wells, minor though). I will get better pictures up when I can.. It's just a bone stock 20th AE but these cars are so gorgeous.

20k miles..not bad! If I were you I might go ahead and change the timing belt though. Also, do you mind me asking what you paid?

I paid 16k after all was said and done. It was a VW dealer, they knew what they had on their hands and were pretty firm with the price... I dont feel like i over paid at all. I have never come across a used car with such low mileage, and so well maintained. The original owner of the car only put on 14k miles in the cars first 8 years. I am the 3rd owner. This has pretty much been my dream car for years.

Haha I will, I know it's a lot of money, but looking into it, I've seen people paying only a couple thousand less for cars with 75-80,000 miles on them.. It was a VW stealership as well. I'm happy, but I would like to hear what you have to say of course! It's already mine, not like it's going to talk me out of spending the money haha.

I'll get better pics up soon.

Apart from spending 16k on a 10 year old VW Golf, the only thing really worrying is if your insurance values it at 16k. But at least from the pics it looks really well taken care of.

OUch. Sometimes you have to overpay to get what you want. Mine was a 1 owner with 36K. Better to get completely stock and make it your own. Congrats.

About time somebody bought that car lol. It's been at Smith VW for the longest time. Probably the cleanest 20th out their. I Know the car is probably worth the money, but i couldn't justify spending that much money for a used car. Especially for an 03.

Trust me, there was that part of me that was cringing at the fact I was paying that for a 2003. I know I didnt get the greatest deal out there, nor am I trying to claim that. Overall, with the condition of the car, and the fact that its one that i've always wanted, I dont feel I paid all too much. I knew the car had been sitting there, and the crooks probably made a killing off of it, but I couldnt let it go. Had this purchase been breaking the bank and leaving me dirt poor, I wouldnt have went with it. Anywayyyy, I know the vortex is a rough crowd, but it is what it is.

Hope to get some more pictures up in the near future.

I recently bought a JB 20th and I probably paid too much but I don't care! It is awesome and a blast to drive. I love how all the Hondas want to race. Enjoy your new toy! You only live once and there aren't that many of these around.

Hope you got gap insurance because in reality the car is only worth about 7-9... If you don't know why I say this, google what happens when your car that you paid 16k for gets totalled and the insurance company only pays you 6g for it.... (not saying that will happen, I surely don't want to see that, but sh*t does happen, look at this http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...t-in-peace-431. not even a month...)

No, not at all. You walk into somewhere with facts and confidence, and you can usually win...

The reason it sat there for the longest time is because it is in fact NOT worth 16k. THe dealer couldn't find anyone who would pay that, well, until now. Regardless of the 20k...

I bought my IY which probably looked as good as that, in aug 2009, with 55k on it for 8400... Below the market value of 13,500 at the time... FF 3 years. Ouch dude, 16k. Ouch

I know you feel it's worth it because you really really wanted it, but I hope this doesn't come back to bite you in the ass...

What if you want to sell it, or rather need to sell it in two years? When it's only worth 5k at best, but you still owe 12k on it?

Moving on, like someone else said, you should probably do the timing belt/tensioner/waterpump nonsense like soon, because that crap is 10 years old... I recommend IE's manual tensioner kit...

And start modding that thing and drive it. Cars are meant to be driven, not sat in a garage...

87vr6 - trust me, I know you, nor anyone else is giving me information that is not valid. Kelly's Blue Book and Edmunds both value the car at wayyyy under 16, even in perfect condition, I was aware of that and had all the info going in to the purchase. I also knew going in that insurance would not give me anywhere close to what I paid, and I know even trying to sell it privately I am taking a loss right away. That's a risk I put myself into.

I knew the car had been on their lot for months, and when I first saw it, I didn't seriously consider buying. It wasn't untill I came across a couple 20ths with 75k miles, in just "ok" shape, and people standing their ground around $11,000 because "they did not need to sell the car" that I considered it.

In reality, did I pay too much? Absolutely lol. Do I regret it? Nope. I had been setting money aside for a while, waiting to find something I really wanted to spend money on. Here it is. Hope I'm not coming off as rude, because I am only trying to explain why I went ahead and spent the money lpl.

And do not worry, the car is not just sitting in the garage, I am driving it lol. Ill be doing a few mods and will be posting pictures in time. Will also be taking care of the things you and others have mentioned, I do appreciate that.

As long as you can afford it I'm not gonna say how you should spend your money.

Drive it. Be happy. It's that simple.

Awesome find. I have no idea why everyone is getting on your case. Maybe its jealousy, thats the only reason. It has 20,000 miles. Its basically new. The interior looks mint and untouched. The car looks mint and u paid $16,000. Its 10yrs old? YA who cares its looks like its a 2012. One of the very few left with low low miles. MY preferred colour of Jazz blue Id easily pay that much for one with that low miles. The car is basically new. Wicked.

Hardly dude. I am def not jealous of someone who paid twice what I did for a basically identical car.

Nice find! I agree with 87VR though. I bought my bmp for WAY less than that from an original owner with only 55k. The car was mint besides having to have the Aristos refinished. It also had the timing belt and w.p done. NOTHING was unoriginal. completely stock.

On the other hand, I wanted the car sooo bad and probably would have paid close to what you did if I had my back against the wall.

See, everyone is misunderstanding, you got one hell of a nice car, there is no doubt.

But for real, get the timing belt components changed. Those gas charged tensioners don't last long, and even though it only has 20k on it, it is almost a decade old. It would definitely suck to have to put another 2k on top of what you've already paid..

No worries man, like I said, you raised all valid points.. I appreciate the advice.. The price is what it is, too late now hahah. Just glad I've got it now. Will definitely be considering the timing belt in the near future.
