How old are those strut mounts? Honestly the design of those mounts is so terrible that they blow out in a months time. A friend recently replaced his and we already notice it flexing upwards. They should be okay for a little while but they'll need replacing. If you can find someone selling the early strut mount style go for those.

I also see you immediately removed the helper springs. Which coils are they?

The mounts are brand new, I'm about to go and swap that one with a newer strut mount that was on my other springs... And the coils are racelands, the only reason I removed the helper is because they would rub, and there's a couple threads on here where I saw people removing them right away.

Hmm well the body of the mount looks to be okay. As long as that isn't cracking and you dont notice any major tears on the inside part I wouldn't worry about it much. I think they all tend to sit like that unfortunately. (That's what happens when you put all the corner weight on one piece of rubber. )

I've heard mixed reviews about removing helper springs. When you get spacers, try putting them back on and see how the ride compares. Some people say removing the fronts doesnt make a difference but the rears help.

Thanks, I'll try that and report back. The only reason I took the backs off is because almost everyone I've seen has taken theirs off. There's room for them, so I'll throw'em back on.

Got spacers today, gonna be buying nicer ones once I have the money to do so.

I'll be raising the back a bit tomorrow, and possibly the front for axle clearance... Also, getting new tires tomorrow. And after I do all that, I'm going to put all the helper springs back onto my coilovers, the ride is a bit bouncy for me, seeing as I managed to pull both front tires off the ground tonight just by hitting a bump... Will update with pics once I get them.

So I put all my helper springs back on and I'm much happier with the height and ride now

I don't have any good pictures as of now, but I will take some.

And here's a little side project I'm working on that I haven't seen done.

Since my right reverse light was dead, I figured I'd do a project I've been wanting to do ever since I had my black rocco. I'm going to put a red bulb in it eventually.. So today I found that one of the po's wired a completely useless wire from one parking light to the other, so what I did is took that wire, and wired it to the reverse light. I also put in a 12v tail light bulb just to make sure nothing would blow. So now with that light wired in to the parking lights, all that's left to do is paint. I'm going to re-paint the existing red along with the white of the right reverse light, so I have my own home grown euro fog light I know these cars didn't come with these, but I've always loved the look of the extra light. What are your opinions on it?

I also need to figure out why I'm only getting 10.5 volts to the left side...

I'm also considering painting the yellow along with the rest of the tail.. I've seen it done on mk2s and really liked the look of it.

So the reverse light is now on all the time when the parking lights are on? It's interesting but probably illegal. Not a fan personally I like symmetry with lights. I definitely wouldn't paint the lights though. You can find sheets of red tail light tint.

My friend bought some all red overlays for his Mk2 Golf and I was surprised at how well the color matches even though it's over the amber and clear sections. He bought precut overlays from EmpireGFX but they have square sheets for pretty cheap.

I've been planning to do this lighting project for a while now. Just need to start ordering the parts.

Oh wow, I'll have to get some of that film. I was originally going to order lamin-x, but it was kinda spendy.. And that tail light mod is awesome! My lights are set up vaguely similar to that. I may have to do that!

Woohoo! Progress! Tonight I picked up a nice set of chrome bumpers off of a '77, and I'm very happy with the look.

Still gotta fix some fitment issues.

And I just gotta figure something out for the back to get it flush.

Eventually I'm going to shorten the bumper beams, but for now I'm happy

Over all I'm super happy with them! Not bad for 150 bucks And thanks a ton to bm20thbmp for the awesome deal!

Well I wanted to get some better pictures with the new bumpers, so I went to Tacoma with my friend, but my camera died as soon as I got out there.

But here's a few of the shots that I got...

And my personal favorite from the night...

I'll get better pictures up when it's not so terribly cold outside

I'm still super happy with the bumpers, completely changed the look of the car!

Small update, but a good one!

I finally got around to cleaning up my subwoofer wiring, it was a total mess before.

It still takes up a ton of room, but looks much better!

And I FINALLY got my hands on some yellow lights!

It's safe to say, I'm in love And thank you crocodile jones for the great deal on them!

Oh and don't worry, I didn't forget about the other X on the headlight, it's gone now

I think it's safe to say my car is starting to look better

Pics of them unlit? Trying to decide if I want to buy one of his sets or just do Lamin-x.

They look better in person in my opinion. They aren't a super deep yellow that you'd get from lamin-x though. I'm happy with them.

Yeah that's kind of why I want them. Hmmm, decisions. Awesome progress though. I haven't done anything cool to my car in a while. :C

Thanks man and I know how you feel without doing mods haha, just gotta look for deals!

And if you do get these lights, I'd recommend buying yellow bulbs for them. When they're on, the yellow gets kinda splotchy and whited out. Although they do still shine very yellow.

    Unrelated to reply,
I knew I was forgetting something!

I finally got around to putting my Nuespeed stress bar on. Made a huge handling difference! Just needs to be adjusted so it doesn't rattle on the exhaust mount

So today I got this done

All I had to do was splice a couple wires and bam! Now the yellows come on with the marker lights

I also finally got my blinker problem fixed! The filament that blinks was dead in my light, kind of ashamed it took this long to figure that out

Orvilles first play in the snow

This is my second winter in a rocco and I still can't believe how amazing these cars do in the snow! And I apologize to all the purists who garage their cars in the winter haha, I promise I'll take care of him!

And today, I got the fronts on...

    Then I noticed this.....

I don't understand why... I did everything like your supposed to, and checked the size of the bushing and everything

While it may be 'safe (ish), it's bad. Somethings may happen....1. the bearing may seize in the upper mount causing extreme spring wind-up...the opposite of power steering! 2. the upper metal retainer may hit the underside of the hood. I recommend MEYLE dished upper strut mounts.
Re grease them before install and raise the rear or the car up 'just a little bit'....poor puppy looks like my dog with an itchy butt! LOL

Ahh, I was scared of something like that happening! I went back a little later and put my old strut mounts on. Not sure what the brand is or anything, but they work!

    (Don't worry, they're matching now )

Those are the early strut mounts, they're rebuildable and way better.

Ordering new tires tonight, Accelera Alphas, 185/55/14 And I have a new adjustable tie rod on the way so I can actually align my car! And I got a 25 dollar Shell gas card! Guess who's getting a full tank! Merry Christmas to me! And Merry/Happy significant holiday to everyone else!

EDIT: The place with the tires I wanted said they were on backorder with no set ETA, so it would have been anywhere from 60-90 days... So I had to settle with 185/60/14s again...

It really depends. I have mine all the way cranked down so they're pretty bouncy, but they still ride nice on smooth roads. But for a while I had them raised up and they drove really nice. They would iron out bumps that used to rattle the car apart before. I personally love them, and in my opinion they're worth the 400!

Yeah mine came with the black body. I'm not sure why but on their site they're listed with bare metal and my brothers subaru racelands are bare, but mine came black. But that's fine with me, I like the black

And the headaches begin yet again. I have a window seal leaking causing my entire passenger floor board to become flooded, and about 15 minutes ago, my cooling system blew out again. I'm getting tired of constantly having to fix something and then having something else go wrong as soon as it's fixed. The amount of money I'm having to put into this car is starting to make it not even seem worth it anymore... I may have to consider selling. As much as I dread those words, it's starting to feel like my last option.

    Here's the window seal...

And here's what my floor looks like...

And can anyone tell me how bad this is? Should it be replaced? The car has been undercoated at one point, but I don't know how bad this is...

In about a week or so and 130 or so dollars, I'm hoping I can be back on the road again...

Haven't posted in here in a while, this car's really starting to get to me.. But, I just ordered a new radiator and now I'm making a list of hoses I need. I'm making sure this is the last time I ever have to touch the cooling system ever again!

Also on a sadder note, a classmate I've known (not very well) was found lastnight, after she had passed away Details are still unclear about the whole thing, but it was self conflicted. Please everyone keep her family in your prayers, she was a great kid with a great life.

Small world haha. And thanks, looking back I wouldn't want any other car lol.

Also, my radiator should show up today! And I found a new source of inspiration

Super unheard of game that a small group of modders got ahold of and luckily someone made this awesome mod This is pretty much exactly how I want my car to look too! I haven't seen a set of modern lines on a mk1, and the look is starting to grow on me.

    Orrr maybe turbos
