I believe you should have a 09A trans. (you would need to confirm this or the following statement is garbage)
THere is a solenoid that sticks and causes no reverse on the 09A.

Hi. I have a 2001* Jetta 24v vr6 with 150k miles that sat for 6 months while deployed. When it was parked was in tip top shape now the reverse is kind of gone. Or at least going. Shifts into R fine. You hit the accelerator and the engine revvs like its in N. Once it hits 2k or so rpm the reverse starts slowly working as if it was at 500 or so rpm. the tyranny was flushed and no change. This common? Anyone have suggestions/ brainstorms?
It is at a garage who supposedly specializes in European cars. Not sure if I trust em. I'll be asking for vag-com readings. Hopefully they have a system. I'm not taking care of it personally due to ..."work" but I can yell well over the phone.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

That's what I was figuring. The garage my friend took it to told her the tranny would be going soon, just not too sure as to when. And that we should be replacing the transmission. Something like $4k.
Called the dealer looking for the solenoid. They don't sell solenoids, they'll gladly sell me the whole valve body for 1100$ though... how thoughtful -_-
I talk to their service department and ask them if they actually have a VAG COM device to check the car, and the answer I get is "Uhm... a what?" I explain what it is and what it does. The front service desk is clueless, so after about 5 minutes of explaining the same thing over and over I ask to speak with someone who is covered in grease walking around. "Oh yeah I got one of those. Cost's an hour of work, gotta make appointment tho bro.THAT WAS HARD.
Where can I get the solenoids individually? Does someone have the part number or link directly to the thing? If so that'd be phenomenal.
I'll just put the thing in myself. ffs. Never had to work so hard for like 300 dollars worth of work. On a car I only might be buying.
Edit: APPARENTLY it's an 01. some girls have no idea what they're driving...zzz

01 would probably have a 01M trans and they have 3 common issues that cause no reverse and all three require trans removal and disassembly. So basically if you have a 01m then you probably need a trans.

The three main problems are what? Valve body/solenoids, wiring harness and something else :piston maybe? Just so I know what to look for when tearing apart. To make sure I check all applicable parts.
Also thanks for the assistance so far.![]()

All the common problems are internal. I dont answer "internal questions" as I usually suggest that folks dont rebuild it themself.
there is special tools and special knowledge needed. The "book" is inadequate as its for a 096 and there are differences between 096 and 01m, and the only way to know is you just gotta know.
If I were you I would start budgeting for a trans.

So, I took the dub to a tranny specialist a ways from my house. He actually tore the tranny apart in front of me, which I thought was awesome. I saw all the inner workings of it. The reverse piston was shot, and totally ate up all the surrounding teeth. He was shaking it at the end and teeth were just falling out like nothing. THAT was rather disheartening.
There was also some hesitation going into third due to loss of friction on the plates. They were slipping. Man reverse was torn up though. Rebuilding it now. Hopefully I'll have it this week.
I sure hope so, since my daily driver mustang popped a ball joint off in the Dunkin Drive thru this morning on the way to work. Both cars are in the shop. Damnable hells. Expensive week -_-
Thought I would update this post.
