If you want to race than build a street car. As a baja owner i can tell you you won't win many races with one but they go everywhere. Realistically do your research and buy something that's not totally ragged out. The best advice i can give is... dont try to baja a super and don't cut up an early car.

    i think i just pee'd a little!.

this is why i work in the shop and troll racing junk and yellow bullet at home...i look at cars all day and night and then for some stupid reason look at em when i get home and open up a computer...

...and yet all i have to do is start a thread of something i "think" i want to do....

    ...who would have thought.

for the OP ...build a street car and piss your money away on everything from a ill running 2 liter air cooled motor and then piss the rest away on some hack body man....or build a baja, waste the same on a wasted crap bullt motor and then factor in an offroad trans....then dont worry about a paint job...cuz with a baja most think it can go anywahere cuz it's missing a few fender bits and it has an exposed motor and big tires.

sorry for the rant dude...just by something that is done, built right and fit your bill.

I vote that from here on out, none of us help any of these one thread wonders who are "thinking of getting in to the scene" unless they can at a minimum, use a period and complete sentences.

....and no get on defensive soap boxes.

...just because one can type a good line and reason....doesnt change the truth...they were built as a throw away, eonomy cars for the world of 50-60 mph speed limits and a slower pace of life...that is no longer the way of the world today, parts are crap new or old, rust (even in california) has taken them over, not too mention multiple accidents....but most important, they have been rode hard an puit away wet....for nearly 50yrs

..it's a 40 yr old car at best and thats the fact, buy an american old car and you'll be going through the same thing, lust a little less of it.

mk1-2-3 and all watercooled are NOT and never will be compared to an air cooled, the drive, maintance and just the hobby/following is 180 degrees different.

I don't have a chair to sit on at work all day answering questions that other people ask,I come home after work & choose to share info which I've learned.

Given your lack of comprehension for what a PERIOD is for as well as your unique spelling of words (not sure if this is the "hip" way to talk in the "scene" or if the educational system in your area is failing), it is understandable that you could be confused as to what the difference is between a question and a statement. For this reason, I will help you understand so that you can get the information you are seeking in regards to your dream beetle.

This is a question. You are asking for help. Had you not needed help you would not have asked us if we thought you should build a low rider or a baja. Unless we are going on a "witch" hunt and if this is the case, this might be more suited to be poste din the Car Lounge area.

If you in fact were not asking for help and instead were trying to make a statement, you would have written- I am going to build a Baja bug so that I can take it off some sweet jumps after beating the rice burners in my area in drag races. Damn those rice burners and their Japanese cars.

This forum has many people with great knowledge. They are all very willing to share and help. Presenting your question and thoughts in a clear manner will make it easier for us to help you. While it may seem cool and easy to toss the period into the trash can, it makes it very difficult to read. Most people will stop after the first sentence. If you want us to take the time to help you, have the courtesy to take the time to present it so that we can read it easily. Often the proper reply will take 4x or more thought, effort, and time than the post requesting it.

And when people come to help and you don’t like the response, kicking in the door and throwing a temper tantrum will only make you look more ridiculous and immature than you already did by posting a 30 sentence (the term sentence is used very lightly here) without the use of a sentence and basic sentence structure.

Having said all that, I assume we will commence with anther tantrum.
