mid september Im planning on going up to the Tahoe area and of course the Rubicon Trail is right next door.

Id like to know if anyone on here has some first hand xp in running this trail.

Ive been to Moab twice and ran a few trails there but reading reviews on the net im getting mixed opinions of the actual difficulty.

So if anyone has run it and has some advice Id enjoy to hear it.
The W123 Mercedes, most notably the 240D, is an excellent model of automotive perfection!

What vehicle and mods do you have? That helps. Are you experienced? If this will be your first time, then try to get someone who's done it before to go with you. Most experienced people there will gladly help you there. Take whatever advice your given. Most people there are there all the time. They know the trails like no other. Good Luck.

I have a '97 TJ 4.0 5spd 2" Suspension lift 17" Rubicon wheels with BFG A/Ts. I'm not a noob, but I'm not a hardcore off-roader either. I am also not fond of body damage, and I know there is always the risk but I'd like to keep it to a minimum.

I've completed three difficult rated trails in Moab: Hells Revenge, Fins and Things, and Kane Creek Canyon, along with some of the easier ones and numerous trails in the SW Nevada area of various ratings.

I would like to find someone who has completed it before and has a good idea of what is going on, but I'm not totally sure where to find them. A lot of the Jeep forums are full of D-bags and since I do not have a Rubicon or super high end mods and equipment, I'm only "Mall Rated" and not serious enough to try anything of that nature.

Here are a few pics so you can bask at my Mall Crawler.

I'd hit up some of the jeep forums and ask around as to what difficulties you would encounter. If your TJ is basically stock with a small lift then it would probably be a bit tough. I was reading a trip report and some guys running 35's on a TJ were getting some trail damage so ymmv.. I know that i wouldnt attempt it in my rover without sliders, front and rear diff guards, 33's + 3" lift, and lockers front and rear. Even then i'd fully expect to do some delving into my spares kit to fix trail damage..

My dad has been doing the Rubicon for the last 20 years. We still go on annual runs and he and my brother drive up to play around on day trips every other weekend or so. We're from El Dorado Hills, so it's about an hour and half or so drive up there. Look for us while you're up there! We might be there!
