Let's get a thread going about those little overlooks or "oh wells" your service department(s) really piss you off about. I'll start with:

    - Washing car when I specifically request not to, swirls and scratches galore.
    - Missing valve stem caps.
    - Over-inflated tires.
    - Fluids not checked or topped off.
    - Wheel edges beat to hell after tires mounted/balanced.
Need VAG-COM work in CNY? PM me!

I agree. But I've also had plenty of this stuff happen at independent shops.

Or just greasy fingerprints anywhere in the interior. It's no big deal when they get it on the paint or the windows - it wipes off easily - but in the interior, you have to put in more elbow grease.

Leaving my strut mount top bolts loose, and my sway bar hanging down because they forgot to put the sway bar end link bolts on.... That really chafes my ass. Especially when I tell them about it and get "Oh well, what would you like us to do about it? We close in 15 minutes."

LAST time I ever went there.

i brought my 1998 jetta in for warantee transmission work back in about 2000. Brought it to a local VW dealer. I did have an aftermarket stereo and sub/amp in the trunk. I REMOVED the faceplate of the stereo when bringing in the car....

drop the car off and the next day get a call saying it is done and to pick it up. service manager greets me and says to get my car off the lot ASAP as it is bad for business.....

car had rear window smashed, the rear bench FORCED open. scratches all over the leather. blood stains on the leather. and of corse missing stereo deck, missing subs, missing amps.

to top it all off they never did ANY of the work on the transmission.

long story short, they told me to go pound sand. a local attorney said it wasnt worth the money to go after them. local police would not even show up for the report. keep in mind this is in a nice neighborhood as well. after refusing to remove my car until the insurance adjuster would come and take pics and investigate, the dealer agreed to replace my broken window for free....

i filed an insurance claim and ate the 500$ deductable. The dealer is HALL IMPORTS IN BROOKFIELD WISCONSIN ON BLUEMOUND ROAD...........

    may they rot in hell

Wow, you guys go to some chitty dealers, lol. Someone that does any number of those things would just get blown out here. But in SoCal, there's some pretty good competition with all the dealers here

Over torqued bolts - I've stripped 2 oil filter drain plugs that were over tightened.

Forget to put the oil cap back on. Picked up my Corrado and headed straight to work. Arrived to smoke/steam pouring from under the hood. Opened it to find the cap sitting upside down on top of the engine cover and oil splattered all over the engine bay and underside of the hood.

Funny you should say that. We take cars almost everywhere throughout the day, coffee run or lunch run. Sometimes an extended test drive is needed for diagnosing maybe an intermittent problem, or a a drivability issue. We also frequently drive cars home (with the customers permission) to set OBD monitors. I guess it's the benefit of being in an independent shop that's on a first name basis with most of its customers.

Service department fried my DME on my E39 M5... totally admitted to it, fixed it, and even paid to have Powerchip reprogram the ECU to get my old tune back. They gave me a new 328xi to drive while they sorted out the car. dealership

this. I got hand print on my ceiling when the car was in for a broken taillight. I ended up having them replace the entire roof insert because they apparently cleaned with with bleach or something.

Just got back from my dealer.

3 hours for a simple service that I could all do myself in less than an hour. Why didn't I? Free regular maintenance, or else I would do every bit.

brought car to dealership because it was misfiring. Told me they replaced spark plugs and it running fine. I told them I had just put brand new plugs and they were 100% gaped correctly. $300 bill.

Car misfires the whole way home. Open hood to find the same spark plugs I had just put in....

    good times.

98 new beetle had rusted hatch. contacted vwoa and found that it was still covered under their rust warranty. Went to larry miller vw in avondale az with the car and they scheduled a time to replace the hatch.

got the car back with both taillights broken and a newer style hatch installed on the car. the 98s had the flip up emblem in place so that you could open the car from the outside due to not having the flip key or remote trunk. so when i got the new hatch and it had the sticker emblem(which was installed crooked) i had no way of opening the hatch from outside the car

called vwoa and they said that there was nothing they could do. larry miller told me they didn't damage anything and asked what they wanted me to do. asked for either the correct hatch be installed or a programmable key be provided so i could open it from outside. they said that they couldn't do either and that they were done with the car
