This is the thread to share costly and jaw dropping costs associated with expensive cars new and old. And while yes showing off pics of the repairs to your 1.8T nevar lose is nice please refrain from basic cars like my GTI.

Got the idea from a mishap with the Motortrend fleet Audi A8. They failed to notice and ran over a concrete block at 5 MPH - the result almost $11,000 in repairs!

      Motortrend Audi A8 ops!

      A8 door skin - $1508
      Fender panel - $631
      New wheel/tire - $1814
      Etc...
      Labor - $4000

      Share your repair costs!

Does this include warranty repairs(lists repair cost, but free of charge to the customer)?

      Either or.

I want to see costs to fix the ops I hit a pole or curb or ran over a small child costs. Not the engine failures or blown rods type damages.

This will be helpful to me to help kill off the desire to sell the GTI for a used luxury land barge.

If you own a car with an aluminum space frame, then be extra careful.

i just paid the local indy shop $399.45 to get the snapped strut to spindle bolt out(damn you muscle milk) and throw in a control arm bushing on the e46 xit. Not really an expensive car but an expensive mistake on my part with a breaker bar.

because aluminum... Aluminum made everything more expensive... If i remember correctly, even the paint process (or the paint itself) is different because of it.

      e46
      front CAB's - $581.00
replace intake hose mount or something causing a rich/lean code - $100
adjust parking brake - $95 (probably could have done this myself if I really wanted to)
      buyer's inspection - $165.00
replace front sway bar mounts - $161.
      misc. stuff - ~100

Total came out to $1098.31 w/ tax. Hoping the car is good to go for awhile, the inspection came back saying it's a good car and this was at an indy shop my dad used back in the 80's when he had a 735i so the place has been around for awhile.

Heh, when did that happen? I remember when they crashed their long term E46 328; by the time the write-up was published, the 330 was out.

when my poor s4 was run into by a truck:

when it was all said and done, the estimate to repair all damages was $14,000

edit: also important to note that there was no suspension damage, no frame damage, didn't even scratch the front wheel.

It was a 2007 model I believe, so a long while back.

For me I had the manual transmission in my 335i replaced when it was new. Warranty repair, something was loose and exploded the gear box completely. Not sure how much that cost, but it was an alarming amount.

hit a guard rail with the side of my car in a new beetle
didnt nail it head on, as i was moving forward slid into the guard rail, and slid its length

drive it away no problem, took it to several shops across towns, looked like only body damage

      30 days, and 13 grand

Personally, for the 100K+ that these A8s are optioned out too, and considering the amount of aluminum on them, its not surprising, however the 165 hours worth does see excessive

      Wow just absolutely insane costs.

I really never understood the value of buying premium luxury cars. This is just one more reason why. A fool and his money are soon parted.

It's insured - the out of pocket costs are the same.

I was quoted $2500 to replace the clutch on my MINI. I decided to buy a clutch and flywheel kit and install it myself. Total cost for me, $450.

I got a puncture in the rear tire of the R8 out on the highway about an hour away from home on a Sunday night, had to use the flat repair liquid. The next day I took the car into the dealer to get a new tire and replace the repair goo and I ended up paying almost $1,100 for that one. I know I can get a tire cheaper but was needing it fixed quick and they had one in stock. That being said the service bills for that car have only been about $300-400 and it has never had anything major needed, granted it has very very low mileage.

InsideLine's long-term A8L got hit by road debris about a month after they got it.

      http://blogs.insideline.com/roadtest...take-long.html

Cost to repair was $2,785.82, about $1,500 of which was labor.

The body shop did not do a good job of matching the paint, and apparently it just took a rock to the windshield

My buddy had an 05 Boxster a few years ago, and it got t-boned, wasn't too serious, I believe he said he could have driven it home if he really wanted to. But of course, getting t-boned in a Boxster not only ****s up the lost expensive place to do body work, but also the spot where the engine is hiding. $20,000 later, it was good as new...

(it wasn't totaled because it was an 05 Boxster, and the crash happened in 2007, so it was still pretty new)
