So I was driving home from work yesterday and the car just cuts off at the light. I try to start it and it only turns over, so I know its not the battery and the starter. I know there is a few threads on this but they are older ones and was just wanted to know how many of you guys have had to replace the fuel pump. I only have 40k on the car and had it towed to the shop to have this confirmed on Monday.

If you open and close the door, do you hear the pump prime?
United Motorsport authorized dealer. PM me anything UM related.
IMS built UM tuned Golf RS.

The consequences of being first to market are felt long after the novelty has worn off.

No you cant hear it prime when you open the door, But when you turn the key you can hear the fuel pump relay click and the tack will bump when the motor turns over. So I dont think its the crank shaft sensor. I am still thinking its the pump but will not find out for sure till Monday. Do you know where its located on the V R32? Is it under the back seat?

Check the cam shaft postion sensor connectors to oil ingress (unplug them and look at the pins for oily debris)

I've had the fuel pumps replaced three times at the dealer. It got so bad that the car would shut off while driving on the high way numerous times. :bang head: I'm back up to running and problem free now. It was a long battle to get them to find the pump bad as it was never throwing any codes to lead to the pump.

the main pump is located in the tank. Don't have to drop the tank to access the pump. You can gain access to the pump by the opening under the rear seat. The car will smell like gas for for a few weeks.

no, to get to the fuel pump simple pull up on the front edge of the rear seat bench, you will see a black metal cover with three screw, remove that cover and you have access to the fuel pump, also one a side note, you maybe want to just disconnect the hose at the fuel rail and see if there is fuel present and if there is pressure. The R32's fuel filter (located under the vehicle by the back wheel) is also the fuel pressure regulator and can become clogged easily. If you have fuel, and you're RPM gauge is going up while cranking the engine then you know your crank shaft position sensor is working. you then need to check spark, things like faulty cam shaft sensors will stop the signal to/from the ECU giving the motor a firing signal, I've seen this many times on the R32.

    Yes,
I did say it was under the rear seat.

I've been having trouble starting it after it's been baking in the sun for hours. I hear the pump prime (or at least I hear the relays go), but it doesn't crank cleanly. Give it a second crank and it usually sputters up (sounds crappy, not normal start), but then it seems to run OK... I'm thinking it's just minor vapor lock but i don't know?
