Thread: yet another Eurovan 01p problems.....please help me diagnose....

  1. 06-18-2012 09:51 AM #1
I got a 2000 eurovan with 220k on it that I use as a work car.

Every since I got it, it had the typical 01p tranny problems..... Harsh shifts between 1-2 and slipping.
After the original tranny failed, I got a used tranny replacement.

The new tranny drives ok, but has the same 1-2 harsh shift as did the old tranny. So I did some research
    And tried to remedy it.

    Changed oil and filter
    Replaced valvebody with remanufactured unit.
Added a air to water cooler kit
    Replaced the ribbon harness
Switched the TCM with different unit ( same part number)

Non of this seem to make any difference.

From what I understand..... The TCM is suppose to open solenoid 5 in between every shift, which it does.
    Except between 1-2 ,2-1 shifts.
I can't figure out why it wouldnt activate the solenoid between those gears.

I would really appreciate some input.....

what city & state are you in, just curious. I know a few folks around the country who work magic with those Eurovans, one of whom is our forum resident CoolAirVW.

How are your verifing control of solenoid 5?

I've never specifically checked on a 01P but all the 01ms drop pressure with that solenoid on the 1-2 shift as well as the others.

There were some early 01m--096 computers that through some error (mechanical or software???) would stop dropping pressure. Maybe yours has that problem as well. (yes, I know you changed the TCM)

Have you checked TCM codes with vag-com?

I,ve only verified solenoid 5 with vag com. Tcm sends command to open every shift besides 2-1,1-2
There aren't any stored codes either......although, most of the time it says that module is not ready for interrogation
