I've always been impressed by the multirole abilities of the Phantom. From carrying troops and cargo, to potential tanker duties. It's unimproved runway landing abilities are impressive, to boot.

The F4 may be a large, slow, gas-guzzling tank powered by two chimneys (all by today's standards) but it is easily one of the last "cool" aircraft before the relatively boring modern era. Back when you simply drew a shape which looked like it would fly, tossed it in the wind tunnel, and built it.
I think my fascination with the F4 is obviously due to my father RIO'ing them in VF-31, but the same attachment is something I've developed with Russian aircraft. Those cool aircraft before computer design figured out the perfect shape for aircraft.
It's sad to me that all future combat aircraft will be F-22/F-35 style...No more cool aircraft.
