Thread: Good engine builders?

    Im looking to buy a 1641 for my 68' auto stick. Longblock or possibly turnkey. Whos good to buy from?

    where are you? if you are on the east coast try whitey worsham (german automotive) in fletcher nc. if you are west coast annibal chico at CPR (chico performance racing). jake raby is also good but he does not do type 1 stuff anymore. hope this helps

    acvw engines are a joke to build. get a book and do it yourself.

    if only that were true. now that the chinese are involved its a different game. almost every aircooled stock or not is built like a race engine. piston weight are off consistently bearings are a joke most of the time and you have to custom fit most everything. a good machinist is a must if you are going to build your own.

    I would look into the next size up 1641 uses slip in cylinders with thinner walls( could overheat) 1776 would be better for only a bit more money
