Is it worthwhile to swap my 2009 Rockhopper frame for a 2008 Stumpjumper FSR frame? My current frame is an M4, and the Stumpy frame is an M5. I have been looking to upgrade the fork on my bike, and came across a Stumpjumper frame for sale that includes a new fork.

I should be able to swap most of the parts from one frame to the other, and can then either sell the Rockhopper frame, or keep it to do something with at a later date. Just trying to figure out if its a worthwhile upgrade to the FSR Stumpjumper.

    Thanks.

I would assume that the RH is a hardtail so you want to move to FS?

a few things to keep in mind in terms of costs and parts to swap over.

    1. you will need new cables and housing and if you're currently running hydro brakes you may or may not need to shorten or replace to lengthen the housing.

    2. your chain may need to be replaced it may be too short for the new bike. Or, alternately, it may be worn and needing replacement as well.

    3. I am pretty sure that the RH used a 100mm fork and the SJ used a 120mm so the forks will not be swap-able.

It may be more worth while to just buy a complete full suspension bike and keep or sell the rockhopper you have now. To me this particular swap doesn't sound appealing because rockhoppers are speced much lower than comparable stumpys so all you would end up with is a nicer frame-ish.

Thanks for the reply, the Stumpjumper frame actually comes with a Fox fork, which is one of the reasons I was considering it. Also, I had already upgraded a bunch of parts on the Rockhopper to more in line with what would have been on a Stumpjumper frame, so that would not have mattered much to me. Wheels and brakes would have been about the only original Rockhopper parts.

However, I decided not to bother. Mostly because I am pretty sure the XXL frame is going to be way too big.
