I was told in the past that editing video on SSD causes damage to them, something about the cache but I don't recall. I just wanted to know if this is true. My plan is to get a new Macbook Pro Retina since I compared it to the standard Pro and it rendered the 3 minute audi video in less than a minute compared to 4 minutes of standard Pro or 27" iMac.

SSD is the way to go if your seriously into post production. One of my suites is a 27" iMac with SSD running FCP and it screams! Faster than some of the machines at my local broadcast stations...
Check out macmall for the best deals and OtherWorldComputing for the best upgrades for macs.
I would go with the last mbp over the new retina one, better deal and easier to upgrade from what I have read.
    GOOD LUCK!

SSD for pro-sumer and indie is the way of the future and the BlackMagic Cinema Camera is proving that.
