So my car is acting up it has trouble starting in the mornings usually take 5-10 minutes to fire up and I have noticed that the three leds in my guage cluster (oil, battery, and coolant) fail to light before ignition when the car doesn't start but when they light up the car starts right away any help would be great I have tried coolant temp sensor hall sensor and sending unit just did tune up checked coil all was good checked grounds one of the two that ground to the valve cover was frayed but has been fixed and still having same symptoms ????

i don"t think that is the case but am going to see if it is functioning properly before i rule it out because when i turn the key into the on position the leds light up but when i engage the stater and it turn over they do not light up and it fails to start and it usually only happens after my car has sat over night or when engine is cold![]()

Sounds more like the ignition switch than before.
Unfortunately, on these cars, it's extremely easy to gain access to the ignition switch plug. I'm going off memory here, but there should only be two screws that hold the steering wheel trim pieces on. Take those off, and the plug is right there. When my ignition switch was on its way out, I just used some speaker wire to shunt the terminals.
The problem is that replacing the ignition switch is not nearly as easy. I never got around to it before my car got stolen (probably shouldn't have left the trim pieces off. way too inviting)
I really suck at smog.

Do u remember what connects to what there is only five wires and I would like to try to fire it this was to check if it is the ignition switch

Don't remember, but just cut up some wire and shunt away. You'll find the hot one soon enough. Hot, key-in, on, crank.

so good news just "shunted away" lol and fired right up first time six times in a row will post more after i try a early am start![]()

good news fired right up this morning when i shunted the terminals i also put the harness back onto the ignitio and put the switch to run and used a wire to engauge the starter and it fired first time so looks like a push button starter is gonna be the choice for me so i can still have the theft protection of the ignition with a push button start![]()
