Retarding timing

Is it possible to retard the timing on a coil pack vr6?

my vr5 is very similar and I am boosted I am having a problem with knock as boost onsets. I want software but it is not available. I'm running 10 ish psi, 10.5-1 comp, 94 octane. Just as the boost comes on I will get 1 or 2 ignition knocks at 11-1 afr's but it stops right after that and pulls hard till redline

is the timing really advanced on part throttle/light load?

I'm sure you could get a programmer to do it electronically or just manually retard the cams
