so Ive been thinking about selling my non-running mk2 gti for a while now, thought id offer to trade (you never know who will say what) and turns out the guy works at a vw dealer and said he would trade. If the car was running I would be getting the short end of the stick as my car has a TON of money into it, but it wasnt so I thought it was fair.

Old gti (took the seats\harnesses out)

Do not approve. Mk2 GTIs are my obsession. Why didn't it run? Are you my twin?

wow I cant believe I forgot to post that. Of course it has a man pedal Theres no way in hell I would have gotten an auto.

To be honest I dont know why the gti wasnt running, I just did a straight forward head gasket job with a newly rebuilt\resurfaced 2.0 head (just did one probably 2 weeks before then found out my valve guides were ruined) Everything bently specs and it just didnt want to start up, so I said screw it and went with this

I like Turbo Volvos but I'd personally have kept the GTI and tried to get it running again.

Was the GTI carb'd or are those ITBs? It had a really nice stance. Probably a bit too low for my taste but it looks like it had a decent amount of rubber!

    Both cars look great.

I cant really say anything more, its a 89 240 with a b230ft (intercooled) engine, 5 speed, boost controller\gauge, bone stock interior, power locks work, manual windows, Virgos wheels (Im not the biggest fan) The only thing thats wrong with it is the "brake failure" light it on on the cluster, Ill have to look into that because the brakes work fine.

The only things I plan to do to it are drop it some and put some wheels on it and maybe refresh some suspension bushings as the steering is kind of numb

weber carbs. I loved ever moment of it when it was running (the sound of webers is amazing) but it was bi-polar it had days where it didnt want to run or start everything was intermittent

But the trade off for the turbo sound is equally good, I cant keep my foot out of the throttle to hear that whistle!

It's probably a faulty brake junction box.

That looks fun I hate working on brakes too. But will give me an excuse to inspect the rest of the system. Don't these have odd calipers up front with 2 hard lines running to them?

A guy at my work has a 240. It is a nice looking car. Predictably, he's one of these hipster doofuses - horn rim glasses, dumb pompadour, skinny jeans, the whole deal. I kind of want to beat him up.

You're not one of those guys are you? Please say no. I'd like to think that a kickass car like this doesn't necessarily have to belong to a complete idiot.

I like both the before(minuses to my taste for the big bumpers and banner, but double plus for the webers to even out) and after. Please, please no windshield banner for the brick! I've no shame in begging.

Already have my cobra imola race seats from the gti (red, but they will work) and harnesses still.

I threw the banner on for giggles since it was my track car and i got it for free too from an awesome shop No banner on the volvo trying to keep the outside stock looking besides a drop and wheels.

Im already looking for a new set of wheels and new suspension. I love the Virgos but they are skinny as sin (6") I can probably fit 9's under here. But wheels are so hard to find in 5x108. Also probably a new turbo in the future, its stock and smokes a little on deceleration.

eh, those dont look proper to me. If I get adapters thats easy enough but Im fond of staying 5x108. esm makes an awesome turbo style wheel now in 5x108 can get them in 15's 16's or 17's.

As much of a Mk2 Gti nut that I am... a b230ft swapped 244 as clean as that is a damn good trade.

Overall, I think you'll find a lot of approval here. My only issue would be the janky looking exhaust. I hope it makes great power, because the way it hangs out there, and the crush bends, make it look awfully noisy and cheap. IMO, of course.

For whatever reason I'm really missing my old Mk2 today. Probably because I saw a friend who I used to be a huge mk2 nut with that I haven't seen in a long time.

So I definitely don't approve today, but I DO love those turbobricks.
