Grown men flipping out over the word "vagina"
I'm embarrassed for America sometimes.

She wasn't booted for saying the word vagina. She was booted for her sarcasm and disrespect towards the institution and those who may disagree with her. That's fine for TV show sound bites and getting Maddow's panties (boxers?) moist, but using that kind of bull**** 'gotcha!' language in a legislative session will get you reprimanded. Period.
It should and does work both ways.

Like shouting 'you lie!' While the president is speaking to the House of Representatives?
I read the linked article.
I saw nothing about sarcasm or disrespect.
It comes across like it suggests- a male dominated group trying to shut a vocal woman regarding women's issues.![]()

Oh.. I did not know since it didn't happen instantly.
So it seems such punishment worthy actions are open for wide interpretation.
And I thought that heckling was obviously disrespectful.
But the representative in question had the floor.
Good thing she didn't mention anybody named Dick.![]()

every legislature operates differently, even between the houses and senates there are differences. often times in houses the majority party runs the whole show, there is often zero contributions from the minority party. sometimes never being allowed to speak (as a caucus) on anything at all.

Good point. Clueless, middle-aged dudes think it's entirely reasonable that they should have control over women's reproductive functions. I think likening it to rape is a bit extreme, but overall, I'm inclined to agree with you for once.
Wait, wait....She deserved what she got.

Ah. The fallacy that all women support abortion, and that all female legislators support abortion. You're usually (a little) better than that.

No doubt, but a few exceptions don't disprove a general rule, do they? If so, someone should alert the insurance industry immediately!

A few exceptions? Like, over half of women in 2009 being pro-life according to Gallup? This also appears to be trending upward. Since we have a representative republic, those 'clueless, middle aged dudes' might just be representing a majority of their female constituents. Who knew?
#34
Such a tired argument - we are also a constitutional republic, and the SCOTUS has ruled that regardless if you believe that abortions should be illegal, you don't have the right to prevent a women from reasonably obtaining one.
These tools are looking for every way conceivable to circumvent the the ruling, using every avenue possible to restrict access. This is shameful.
If you don't want an abortion - don't have one. It's as simple as that.
#35
Well ****. Since its that simple, and since 'reasonably obtaining one' doesn't suggest any nuance, I suppose we've wasted the last 40 years debating such a cut and dry all encompassing legal precedent.
Oh noes! Legislators are doing their job being an equal branch of government! I am outraged by their hubris!
