i have a big problem! i got a 87 vw mk2 gli 1.8 16v, i have rebuilt the entire engine! and the car will not start! i have no current to the distributer i have tried everything i know its an electrical problem but i starting to give up! someone please help!![]()

i have already put in a new coil and checked the icm, the weird thing is that when i turn the key to off it has current! when i turn the key to on it has no spark?

Ignition switch? What exactly does it do when you turn the key? Is the starter engaging? I know you said dist, just checking everything. Check all the grounds and clean/check all electrical connections.

You don't have the wires going into the coil reversed or something?
Why did you replace your ignition switch? Was it a issue before? Is it a brand new switch?

yes it has a brand new switch, and the coil is connected correctly, and the car did not run when we bought it so we did a complete rebuild on thi engine,

I think in this situation you need a Bentley manual and need to start checking out all wires that have to do with the ignition system, this is assuming your computer is good. You could have a bad connection on a wire, break in a wire inside the housing, maybe somebody wired something backwards? I would check a wiring diagram and start checking continuity, and double check everything is wired correctly. How is your Hall sender?
