It's been 3 months now since my car has been out of my possession. It's ****ing killing me.
I'm making this thread for me to vent my frustration.
While I save up for the repairs and make arrangements for repairs the extracurricular planning doesn't stop. I have a lot in the works. A few people have an idea of what it is...for the rest you'll just have to wait. Even the plans I have shared with those few aren't set in stone.
Here is the last photo taken of the car running. I'm going to toss up some more photos and videos of the car I took from the successful portion of my trip to Helen, GA and the area.

Seems like this will be much more than just getting the .:R up and running again.
Looking forward to seeing what you plan out.

I may buy LED's to support this rebuild.
I could just paypal you a donation doe.

I agree with TeemZ. I am now thinking about getting some interior LEDs.
You NEED your .:R32 back pronto. But so long as you have your beautiful family, you will get through this. I was not able to drive last year for 6 weeks due to a right total hip replacement, but 12 weeks must be really tough.
My 16 year old is now driving the Golf TDI. Not quite ready to have him drive the .:R32, though he's getting the hang of using the DSG in manual mode.

I participated in the Forge Intake group buy and threw in some LEDs (interior/exterior) to try to show Shawn some Vortex love. I doubt he wants direct donations, but he'd love to see us all running Performance LED lamps inside and outside.
He may have some other interesting group buys coming up. Stay tuned.

I don't want LED's for my car but I'd be willing to donate.
If your gas cap light comes on even if you think you tightened the cap, try pulling on the cap as you tighten it. Worked for me.

I'm in on this. Shawn I never got back to you on the MK2 LED kit. I'll start going through the manual and figuring out what I would want/need.

.: Community :.
I was unsure at first about allowing people to take their own hard earned money, especially during times when people may not have a lot to toss around, and willingly let them donate it to helping get my car back up and running. While the misdiagnosis and failure of the bolts holding in the Single Mass Flywheel [on the R32 it is not Dual Mass as in other DSG's] is NOT my fault, the overall health of my car is ultimately my sole responsibility. I take responsibility for everything I do and don't do, and that applies to everything I do in my personal life just the same as in my business.
With that said, I'm going to let Abe leave the donation system up because I have an overwhelming amount of people asking me how they can help. I return I have an idea to take those donations and give a little something back to the community. I'm not 100% sure how yet, but one thing I have already decided is to do a dedication plaque somewhere in the engine bay and have the vwvortex screen name and their real names engraved for individuals who give donations of $100 or more. I haven't thought about what I'll do for those who donate smaller amounts yet, but something will happen. Why am I doing that? You guys work just as hard for your money as I do mine, and I want to show my appreciation for the support.
.: The Situation :.
Quoted repairs will be in the ballpark of $8-9k from Volkswagen. I denied the repair through Volkswagen since the car is out of warranty and I refuse to give them any more money regarding this incident which was manufacturer defect. I have had the car towed to an independent shop of choice and am saving up some funds while the shop to wrap up some projects before digging into the actual repairs. I'll have a better idea of the cost once the shop gets in and assess the situation more closely and make a decision on what I'm going to do after that.
I have been meaning to post up a more detailed account of my situation so that others can diagnosis and prevent this from happening to them. In some cases the symptoms are quick and obvious, mine started off slow and subtle and went from normal to catastrophic during my drive up to WiTW's. I have held off because of my pending litigation with the Volkswagen dealer who misdiagnosed my flywheel issue as being bad gas, but I think I'm in the clear to give details so I'll start work on this this weekend hopefully. I have already heard SEVERAL cases where other R32 owners have forwarded my thread to their dealer service managers and it helped get their flywheel replaced under warranty that were exhibiting symptoms. Diagnosis is very easy and any dealer can do it in a matter of minutes.
The failure is NOT the same as the TDI's with the separating flywheel...as our flywheels are SINGLE MASS and can not separate. The problem is that the 10 bolts that attach the SINGLE MASS Flywheel to the engine will back out over time. However, the symptoms are similar to the DMF separation issue on the TDi's in it's advanced stage. More to come about this.
Regardless of the outcome of the donation program Abe setup, $50 or $500, the truly valuable part of all this will be the thought behind the effort placed in showing your support.
Thanks for caRing.
