I have an '02 MV with over 100k on it. In the past two years, I have replaced the A/C compressor five times. Two I paid for, three under warranty. Who builds these things? Is there another compressor that would fit? I live in Central Texas now and A/C is rather crucial.

Unless you're buying them from the dealer (you didn't specify), obviously there isn't just one company making replacements. Even if you got them from the same place, their supplier can change.

Are you doing this in your driveway, or is a shop doing it? Did you replace the associated parts? I'm looking for a compressor for my '93, and every one I've found will only validate the warranty if you buy additional parts....and can prove it.

I buy lots of parts from Rock Auto, and this is an example of the disclaimers I've found on their site....

"All compressor defects must show proof of purchase of an Orifice Tube/Expansion Valve, Drier, and Approved A/C System Flush or a Work Order showing the purchase of these items and that the system was flushed using approved procedures."

So, have you done all that, or are you just throwing compressors on and hitting it with a can of refrigerant from Autozone?

One was replaced at a shop professing knowledge of Eurovans (they knew nothing), then when that died a warranty replacement. The rest were replaced at a VW shop who knows Eurovans. In all cases, as far as I know, drier and all other required parts were replaced. I was also told the compressors are OEM. I dont suppose there are too many manufacturers of Eurovan compressors

System was flushed and 3lbs of refrigerant added (rear system on an MV).

I just had mine replaced and I was told that you have to install a new drier whenever you break into the high pressure side such as installing an AC compressor. Make sure also that the cooling fans kick in anytime the AC is activated or the pressure will build up and blow out the seals.
I found a Denso brand compressor on Ebay for a decent price and also the drier.
