Just got a nicely equipped Passat SE 2.5 candy white with cream tex on the 19th of June. This is my first brand new car. So far 444 miles on it and its a pleasure to drive every one. 2nd day I had it I was showing a friend the motor and closed to hood and the left DRL went out. Brought it to VW the next day had it change. I figured since its new and all why replace it myself. 10 minutes and it was done. Drove out everything was fine until I parked it and got back in. Light was out again. I"m going to bring it back but how hard is it to change the bulb yourself. I looked under the hood and the high and low beams are right there but where the hell is the DRL? Also, what should I say to VW? Make them wash it or something? This is bull**** especially on a brand new car this shouldn't happen. But it is my first brand new car. I'm 23 had 9 cars, this is my 2nd VW, but all 8 were used. I got a good job and since I was younger I always wanted to get a brand new white VW. It was my goal. So I succeeded. But does stuff like happen often on brand new cars?

As you may know, the B7 is a brand new gen car built in a brand new factory. There are kinks that will be worked out in the next production model. As for your problem, I don't think it's the bulb going out. If it is, you definitely have an electrical problem causing it to blow or a couple of bad bulbs, which also may be the case. If you can, get them to replace it again. Tell them your story, then, open and close the hood a couple times (while still at the dealership) to get a good thud, and see if it cuts off again. You have a warranty, and since it could be a problem in somewhere other than the bulbs, keep taking it back and have them fix it until they get it right. Sorry your having problems, I feel your pain though, I'm having issues with both of my LED tails (on my B6), they BOTH cut out...really frustrating, not to mention dangerous . Hope you get everything sorted out.

Thanks a lot. I wholesale used cars for a living and always had used I don't know what do to with a new car lol. I'm going to bring it back to them and let them know the issue this time. I just drive with the lights on for now until they fix it but besides that I love the car. Only car since I got my first car that I'll leave the house just to go for a drive in it.

Haha, yeah my B6 is my first so I know the excitement. Have you thought about disabling the DRLs? I'm sure you know of the vag-com cable that can disable DRLs and do other neat stuff. There are tons of threads on the different things if your unsure about it. But yeah, you can actually turn them off completely if the problem persists and you don't want to deal with it anymore. I think they look nice though, especially when you have LED DRLs, a much cleaner color imo, but that's me.

Could be a parking brake issue if both DRLs go out. I know on my 2.5 that my DRLs go out (become disabled) if I have the engine running and engage the parking brake. Maybe some wiring for the parking brake is the culprit?

So this is how we deal with an electical problem in a brand new car? Disconnect it? Hmm..... sounds like this guy has been driving VW's for quite a while......

Sounds like it could be a contact issue inside he headlight housing. Check the filament his time to see if the bulb is actually "blown." If not, they may need to remove the headlight housing and investigate.

Well it turned out that several Passat's were having similar problems so they replaced my whole headlight assembly. 2 hours and no charge. Never buying a used car again.

I sell and only drove used cars. My past 8 cars were used and the money I spent buying and fixing all those 2002 Jetta's and 1993 Mercedes Benz's (if I wanted reliability I would get a Jap car. Only way to go is new car.

I clearly stated that the B6 was my first car, which I still drive so your sarcastic remark is just overly redundant, but in case you still aren't sure, I haven't owned a car before, meaning I haven't driven anything including VW's for very long at all. Hopefully that didn't confuse you, if it did, I know a good doctor you can see. Secondly, where did I ever say anything about disconnecting anything? Please, point out to me, in my original response to the OP where I mentioned disconnecting "it". I said he could disable the DRLs, which is often done out of preference so I figured I'd offer another option. He sounded like he didn't want to keep going to the dealer, so if he could get that done, it would have gotten rid of the problem he was having, would it not? I disabled my DRLs not because they were shorting out, but because I didn't want them on! I've seen you around for quite a while, and I understand you've got more experience, but where is that now? Instead of offering another viewpoint, you decide to be a d!ck.
