Thread: FS: 2004.5 VW Jetta GLI 1.8t 6speed PG Platinum Grey Chicago 56K miles

  1. 06-25-2012 06:06 PM #1

It's time to Finally go Guy's..

I am the original owner and It was my First ever NEW car.
Drove this car out of the dealership when It had 32 miles, Car now has 56,480 miles

The only reason It has that many miles was due to my 30 mile round trip to work 5-6 days a week.

To and from work really is the only time I used it because I didn't like parking it on the streets or malls, grocery store doctors office etc etc and risk scratches on my bumpers or dings on doors. luckily at work we had A huge parking lot and in the past couple years, it would only fill to about 40% ( more on that later)
This is the way I would park every single day of every year since I bought the car.

The car pretty much sat in garage every winter and If it rained, I would take car #2.. I'm not saying it never saw rain but I just hated it getting dirty after I had just washed it..
If it's raining today and it's already due for a wash, then I would take it to work no problem.. I also took the car to Wisconsin Dells five times (aprox 1000 miles) and to Cedar Point once (620 miles)
    Those the only road trips.

Although I do regret it because I always read about it and always wanted to, the car never saw a race track or drag strip..

VwVortex made it real easy to pump money into this car but I always preferred the stock look and hated messing with engine so I really didn't do much but here's a list Of what I did.

One of the first things I did was add 35% tint to all windows in AUG 2004

Here's the car at 700 miles outside Of Dubwerks in Libertyville IL

At the Dubwerks I had the GIAC Software loaded and also took home the handheld to switch between all the programming more info here. I purchased all that were available..

Stock: Similar to the original factory programming
Pump: Performance programming designed for 91-octane fuel
Race: Performance programming designed for race gas (100-octane)
Valet: Designed to put the car in an operable but significantly detuned state.
Kill: Designed to make the car inoperable.

The only one I never used was the Race program. I only knew of 2 gas stations at the time that sold 100+ octane but never gave it a try. Truth is Pump program was enough for me.
At the time the guy's at Dubwerks recommended I upgrade the DV when doing the programming so they put this in

If I remember correctly it is an Evolution Motorsports DV?? It has an aluminum piston and I would lube it up at least once a year with some synthetic grease.

Dubwerks also Installed an EIP short shifter that is still in the car and I love it.

Car also currently has a K&N drop in air filter.
That is pretty much it under the hood.

On the outside it has tint on all windows
    LED rear license plate lights
    BBS carbon Fiber caps
and a sweet little stubby antenna that I bought years ago through a group buy here on vortex..
Car used to have a badgeless grill that I'm currently selling (sale pending. Sorry buyer, but still looking for a box to ship in!)

car is only on second set of tires that have about 60% tread left.
And one thing you are prob not going to believe is, It is on the original windshield wipers! They still do a good job! The fact that they weren't used as much might have something to do with it I don't know..

I have done every OIL change on car since day one and it has always been Mobile 1 0W-40 that European car Formula stuff
I'm not going to lie and say I changed it every 3000 miles but oil was changed at the minimum twice a year, but for about half it's life, I did it three times a year.
And like the oil changes, wax at the min once a year, sometimes twice.

The only real mechanical Issue I ever had was the water pump going out, so it was changed to the newer, with metal impeller pump at about 30k miles..
The usual coil pack issue that has been resolved under warranty by the dealer. All recalls are up to date.

I've always liked good sounds in my cars. So car currently has
Kenwood DDX7015 double din Touchscreen with Navigation. I picked this one because lights match perfectly to stock cluster lights.
It also has an Ipod cable.
After that the rest is all JL Audio
All door speakers replaced with JL XR Series component speakers
There is a JL 300/4 amp helping those speakers.
    Also have a JL 12" W7 subwoofer
JL Audio 1000/1 amp for that thing.

Everything sounds great but the sub is a little too much for me.

It has OEM Rubber mats that I swapped out the day I drove car out of the dealership. Minty mint original mats somewhere in my basement.
    Euro light switch
    2 Key fobs
    1 Valet
Original window sticker and manual all that stuff still here..
Original GLI grill emblem is here too.

Ok so why am I finally selling?

I just don't use this car anymore.

Back in May our company moved office to Downtown Chicago. I'm fortunate to have been given free parking down there but it is a
public garage that has already reported 4 break ins since we moved there and parking spots suck! I also have the option of taking a train.
here's car #2 in one those spots I'm talking bout

You should see me getting in and out of those spots its a joke.
There is no way I was going to take my GLI in there..
So If I'm not taking it to work, I'm really not driving this car at all..

Our family has also grown and we have been looking for a bigger place so this money would only help that as well.
The car is in great to mint condition guy's and I invite anyone to come see it and report otherwise.

I apologize for cell phone pics but I couldn't find charger to camera the day I took pictures so these will have to do for now.
If I get some time later I'll use a better camera.

These pictures were taken JUN 23 2012

    without cover

    With cover

Rear head rests are put away in my closet, took them off years ago to lower seats when installing sounds

    JL Audio Remote Bass control

    RF

    LF

    LR

    RR

RR Has the only damage to any of the wheels. Years ago I was pulling into a new strip mall for the first time and didn't
    see a curb and

    Heres a close up

Never been in an accident unless you want call a run in with a flying tire one..

About a year ago coming home from work on the highway an SUV in front of me runs over a truck tire that had obviously just ripped off a truck and sends it flying into the air.
Tire lands on my bumper/grill/hood. Cracked the bumper, grill and driver headlight also a dent on hood. I took maybe 3 pictures with cell phone but can't find them. If you want them I'll look for them later this week.
Work was covered by my Insurance and done at European Auto Body Collision. First and only time my car needed any type of paint.
    They did a great job.

The only other bad or current "bad" is the car is overheating. I started noticing it about 3 months ago when
driving back from work and sitting in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic. Like I mentioned before, It no longer has the plastic impeller WP and it has new coolant sensor.
I explained symptoms to my mechanic and he says the thermostat most likely the culprit, have not had time to take it in.

Other than that car runs the same as day one, it sounds good it feels good and it truly is an all highway miles type car. Well I would say about 90% of them are

Not bad for an 8 year old car.

I have taken care of this thing like crazy since day one and it will hurt to see it go but It just doesn't make sense at this time for me and my growing family to keep.

The asking Price is $13,300 not a penny more
Why the $300? Because I once told my son that this would be his car when he started to drive and he remembered.. He want's $300..
Price is pretty firm. I would be glad to negotiate a little but I'm telling you right now I'm keeping the Sub and both amps.

I invite anyone to come see it drive it smell it touch it what ever you want.. I've sold couple cars here so this is the real deal no BS I'm an honest
33 year old with two kids who has nothing to hide. Please ask any and all questions and If you need any other pictures don't hesitate to ask. Of course I would prefer local sale
but as I did with two other sales in the past, I have no problem buying you and a friend some tickets to fly into Chicago and drive the thing home like the buyer of my 20TH did

Please guys don't beat me up on my asking price. Just let me know If you interested If not, keep your comments SFW or appropriate. The only one who doesn't agree with this decision to sell, but because he want's his cut (My 12 YO), is watching..

Oh and don't worry bout the Chicago Bears sticker on the trunk lid. its one those static cling type stickers..
Sorry for the long post but I've been on the buying end of many FS threads and there's just never enough Info or pictures I always say..

    Email me at gordogmc@yahoo.com
    Text is cool too 773-330-0449
    Please no IM's

    Thanks for looking

Great car, but a little higher than I want to spend, even for the low mileage.

Looks like you've really cared for it over the years.

Agreed. $13K is pretty high, even for a low mileage GLI. A Thermostat is like $10 and an hours worth of labor, maybe try to do it yourself so you can say the car is clean. I wouldn't want to nurse it 1500 miles back to PA with an overheating issue.

I been entertaining some offers here and there, So IF you interested, make me an offer we can talk..

The over heating Issue really hasn't been an Issue. I saw the temp climb couple times on couple those really hot days and When I was sitting in some serious traffic..
Why it's happening I don't know but couple mechanics now saying more than likely the thermostat going bad. I would love to take it in to my shop but It's not close to me and the honest truth is I haven't had the time. I'm taking a min now to reply to you from work!

The wife's car going to shop this Tue and this one is next.

So several offers since I posted, many phone calls and 1 test drive but no deals yet. Many of them still waiting for bank or the sale of previous car but haven't heard back.

Car is sitting in garage nice and clean and ready to go.

Thanks to all who I been taking a while to get back to but looks like it's going to be a long summer for me here at work..

Text is easiest way for me to get back to you, let me know IF you have any questions

Good luck, car looks perfect. Overheating can be scary to a potential buyer, I'm sure when you get it fixed (especially if it ends up being just a therm), it'll be gone in no time.

    Thanks man,

I would even be willing to drive it anywhere myself, If I had the time. I have no doubt this car would make it anywhere..
Since last post a mechanic neighbor took a look at the car right as I was pulling into my sister's garage after driving it for couple hours.. He did a quick check under the hood and said water pump is fine and once again based on when and how the temp climbed, he was pretty sure it's the thermostat or maybe need a coolant sensor
I have two quotes to get thermostat replaced but problem is I just have no time to go to these shops.. I'm down to 1 to half a day off a week lately I'm actually taking a minute to bump this thread from work now..

It's a couple hour job at the most that I'll be taking care of as soon as I get more than 1 day off a week but doesn't look good right now.
In the mean time car runs fine haven't seen temp climb since and even left it idling at my sisters for a while and nothing..
Thanks for the comments and the bumps

    Keep them offers coming!

I would be very interested if all the aftermarket stereo equipment came out and was replaced with stock. This is not a possibility is it?

It would involve removing sub and amps and finding a stock head unit. Very easy to do so if very interested, text our call me and we can talk.

    Thanks!

I Have not sorry. I wish everyone who's come to see the car would report back with the condition of the car for me.

Several guys took a peel under the car, it looks fine. I'll see what I can do

Sad day for me last Friday..

    Car is sold.

Thanks to everyone for the offers and for respecting my asking price. At the end I got what I asked for and buyer took home one hell of clean car.

Something tells me he's going to keep it looking good for many years to come.

damn... haha congrats on the sale, man. I wish more people would advertise like this If people would learn how to write and post pictures, there wouldn't be nearly as many for sale threads left.
