Today i stopped on a hill put it into park to wait for the light and when i went to put it back into drive it took significant force and a very loud clunk when it finally released. I also noticed it clunks going into drive from park. is this a sign of a serious problem up ahead? My car has 59018 miles on it...so I'm barely making warranty.

that is the way it is. The locking gear that usually prevents your car from rolling into the river is held real tight by the force of the car wanting to roll into the river, thus it takes alot of effort to pull out that stopper out of the gear. You should always use the handbrakes when parking in any kind of hill, even small ones.

You should always use the handbrake on any car, even a normal automatic. If you ever see the size of the parking pawl, you'll understand why.

Set the park brake then release your foot from the brake and allow car to settle. Now put it in park. There should be no pressure on the park pawl and you should be able to shift out of park easily.

insteading of making a new thread i thought id ask my question here. Why when in drive if you floor it it revs to like 2200 rpm sits for a sec then decides to start moving. When in manual you floor it it revs pretty consistently and it feels like the boost kicks in sooner? Just would like to know the technical stuff behind it and why it does that.
