CALMLY... RESPECTFULL... NO BASHING....i need info and ideas that are realistic on how to make the show better for everyone next year. we try so hard to make it the best it can be and still be laid back and chill.

here is what i have so far. so no need to restate these

--fine tune judging. it was our 1st year for a panel judging. we can not do the spectator judging-it took 3 hours to count them last year and we had at least 150 MORE cars this year...just not possible anymore and it will never be a waterfest points system or anything crazy over the top because of the time, style of the event and man power we have. but we feel as well as many other that the choices this year were fair. one car that won was a helpers wifes car, it won clearly because it was the best in class, NOT because of who's it was, promise....but because of the questions about it, staff will not be able to show again so this doesn't come up again.

--next year it will be called "the cult classic event" since "show" was not thrilling to some people since we didn't have 100 classes and many cheaper awards for each class. we will ALWAYS have a bunch of classes and crazy one off awards for you all to look forward to! that won't change

--bathroom map! haha, many people didn't know there were 6 bathrooms or port-o-potties around and the line for them main one was long

--PA system needs to be louder and in the upper field as well. some people couldn't hear anything.

--registration times will be till 11:30 and then no more show cars let in so judging can happen but we will let people park and not be able to be judged after 11:30

--we will try hard to stick to our time. the auction was to be at 1:00 but judging took longer..so we pushed it back and it confused people, sorry for this.

--trash cans...we need more! but honestly THANK YOU for keeping the park pretty clean! it wasn't too bad for the staff to clean up!

    anything else?

thanks for coming and your help to make it a better event for everyone.

the show itself was not that bad at all, it was the best show ive been to in years. you arent changing the name because of the problems on the forum with "bias" judging are you?
staff should be able to show cars because as you said only one of them won and that person was related to a staff member not directly a staff member, no bias there at all. this is a car show and everybody should be able to show i think.
how about next year, the dunk tank, unless it was there and i was blind lol. hell id submit myself to be dunked cause it was hot as hell lol. or something everybody can have fun with
to try and help solve juding problems/complaints etc. people to just do the judging and thats it, but as you said before manpower is the main problem. that would really be the best way to do it. but you gotta do what you can with whats at hand

    thanks
dunk tank cost $450 to have there last year and we raised onlty $600(which all $600 of it went to the charity and the $450 for the tank cae out of my pocket) with it last year for the charity.... so that wasn't the best use of money...i understand it hot tho too haha....the pool was open and MAYBE next year we can use that pool more. i'll look into the pool rental then more people can use it instead of a few in the tank...cool?

judging won't go back to spectator judging. reasons? time, manpower and we found it to be WAY more of a popularity contest then the panel judging. with spec. judging we wouldn't have awards till 4-430? and i know people like to get out of the sun and head home from a long drive earlier. awards were done by 3:00 this year....i would like that to happen again good for the staff and people that come..no?

very true on the judging, it did go smoothly it was just a statement to try and quell the concerns of BS judging that was "said" to of happened. i took it personally when someone took that seriously since this show was to benefit us and family that was in need. the heat was kinda my fault tho....didnt bring a tent for shade instead i roasted until someone i met saturday let me and my gf sit under there tent with them.
yea try and advertise the pool or something for a better attraction for everybody away from the show to relax too. the dunk tank although was fun last year was a loss for you haha.

I think that covered most of it!

Someone else mentioned it, but maybe have an extra concession stand just for drinks. Still sell drinks at the food tent, but drinks solely at one other stand would be perfect since it can get pretty hot!

Lol. The gas station across the street as well. I also saw a few vendors selling water and other drinks at their booths.

And wth, I didn't know there was a pool!

Well duh, there's all those places surrounding the show, but an extra stand right in the show area would be more efficient.

i second this, but this has alot to do with manpower and time constraints than anything. believe me i bet they do they do wanna but with the manpower to how many people showed up this year it was most likely very, very difficult

The only other thing I would like to see next year is how the cars are situated on the show field. Like I mentioned in the other thread, I think you would be able to get all of the show cars and the vendors together by parking the cars on the vendor end of the show field and working back towards the entrance as the field fills up.

i tried all that in years past! i thought it would be great! but hardly anyone used them and it cost a lot to have...
    -i did a dunk tank- $450 cost, made $600
-i did smash-a-car 3 or 4 years. raised between 400-700 each year but cost me 100-300 for the car and removal. and now my insurance won't let me do it...sue happy people, dang it!!!
-i did blow up bounchy thing and jousting, like 5 people did it.

SOOOO, i tried a few of those and nothing great happened... i think i may talk to the pool and see what the fees are for that and many include that in the show price? BUT that may RAISE the show cost and most people won't want that.... it could go to $20 per show car or 5 to specate..and i HATE raising prices
i'm open to ideas tho for sure.

if the dunk tank worked though as in raising money not looking at out of pocket expense, i would def consider donating. helping bring this back to help a family in need knowing that it helped someone out rather than myself would greatly outweigh what i would put towards it. plus, did people like it?

some did yes...but not as many as i thought. i was surprised. only about 15-20% of the people did it or watched and we had shop owners, vortex mods, sence people etc in it and it was fun, but not a big deal to everyone

Great show Josh and crew! Thank you!

I echo the parking and loud speaker concerns! While I enjoyed quite the perfect setup in "All Other VW" with space to set up camp and the shade, my dad in the MkII class could barely open his car doors (and we rolled in right at 8 am). I know there's no way to anticipate the number of cars coming in in each class, but maybe starting at the back and having a little more room between cars would be beneficial, even if simply for fear of damaging people's pride and joys...

As far as other low cost fundraising ideas since it's charity, maybe a 50/50 drawing (I've rarely seen a 50/50 winner keep the cash when it's for charity); a tire-toss competition; bikini contest; trivia contest?

    Lol @ Beards in Bikinis!

Considering the bikini tops walking around b/c of the heat anyway along with the presence of a pool... (I've also seen it done at Motorama, at Atco's VW Show (back in the day), @ Bug Out in Manassas) I was also quite fond of the "Ladies in Jeans" automotive trivia contest at Deutsche Classic...

Maybe a coloring or craft tent or contest for the kids? (Coloring would entail crayons and sheets of paper. You could have the kids choose their favorite car outline [ranging from bug to bus, etc.] and design their future car on paper).

thats a great idea too but we got to have the family that comes to the show that has kids to know this, so we could properly advertise this so they know and it would work. kids-friendly activities are great for a family oriented show like this because it shows the consideration for the cars and the kids that there.

I was going to suggest face painter (beetles everywhere!!! ) if that could be turned into a donation-based fundraiser, but it may end up along the lines of the dunk tank... my company picnic had an [awesome] face painter there for $380 for ~3 hours. shrug

i hope the judging is a little more fair next year. i know my car wouldn't have won but it was one of the top 5 there in the mk4 gti class and i sat at my car from 12 oclock (end of registration) till the end of the day and didn't even see one judge look at my car. could you have a sign up for judges and make them judge a class that they know alot about or are into without having a car/friends car entered in it? or have a class to screen them to see if they are going to be fair or what to look for. other than that it was awsome weather, great people and a lot of really neat cars. and if you looked passed all the air bags and wheel only cars there was some pretty wild stuff

I believe many people have a misconception of what Cult Classic is. It is not necessarily a show, but more of a gathering; therefore, people should not concentrate on the judging aspect. Previously, it was peer-based. There were no judges; just enthusiasts voting for what they liked.

Think of the awards as something of a nice gesture to acknowledge a select few's work. Although there are many cars deserving of an award, the staff felt those particular cars were deserving of recognition.

Similar to SOWO where they have awards for longest distance travelled, club choice, etc. People don't attend Southern Worthersee to be judged. They attend for the atmosphere.

    exactly.

I Don't know if alot of people realize that the handfull of people that volunteer to help out for the show have more than one job to do during the day..myself including, starting the day off with directing people where to park, then off to judging cars I consider nice.. And ending the day cleaning up the nasty trash people leave behind... That being said our day is pretty busy!(we start at 6:30am)

Hopefully with all the people wanting more of this or more of that.we'll see at least a double increase of staff volunteers next year...
