His voice sounds like the stereotypical redneck. "I don't undeerstand dem der Porsche moters. So imma put a gotdamn Chevy V8 in har".

    Still pretty damn cool though.

Best 911 ever. That is awesome, sounds fantastic. No chance I'm messing with a 911 that sounds like that if it pulls up next to me.

There's a better solution.... make the "Turbo" badge meaningful.

    Meh.

Not a big fan of other marque's engines in Porsches. I understand why they did it, just not a huge fan.

  16. 06-26-2012 04:36 PM #16
If one has the technical skill to do that, one probably could have fixed the porsche motor.... anyhow, it's pretty cool.

Also, now that the ass end is considerably heavier, how well does it go around curves?

Having never really thought about an LSx in a Porsche, I'm amazed at how much room there actually is in the bay with the engine in.

I'm a fan of the flat 6, but you can't beat the sound of a healthy v8.

that is a horrible sound for a porsche.

i dont have any issues with the v8 swap. but that idle noise just makes it sound like a broken tractor.

Funny then, that the announcers during the 24 hours of Le Mans could not stop talking about how great the Corvettes sound

Talking out of your ass or not aware the LS motors are very light? Would love to learn what the flat six weighed, it would have to be very light for the rear to now be "considerably" heavier.

You're going to base your opinion on engine sounds off of what two announcers at Le Mans thought? Have you not heard those cars in person?

ermm, no I haven't not in person. But I'm not sure what you're getting at, are you trying to get across that C6R's actually sound terrible in person? I find that hard to believe.

My opinion is based on my ears. Built Ls motors sound great at high rpm. I never said they sounded better than the cars dude listed, but when someone makes a dumbass statement like "lumbering american v8's" sounding like **** I'll take that challenge.

I forget the exact specs, but I'm pretty sure the LS is lighter than a comparable Porsche flat 6.

No, i'm merely saying that using a couple of announcers as a rebuttal doesn't really make sense.

I think the LSx motors sound great when tuned and un-corked.

However, they are VASTLY different from the tuned sound of an Italian or German V8 or even some inline 6's that sound amazing.

LSx's do sound great in their own right but I do not think they even come close to taking the cake for best engine sound. However that is entirely subjective.

    I concur.

I'd also submit the 99-01 Mustang Cobra for American V8 sexiness. Damn thing sounds more European than AMG V8s.

    A 3.0SC crate engine weighs ~441lbs. Source.
An LS7 crate engine weighs ~444lbs. Source.

I don't know about you, but I would consider 3lbs to be a negligible increase.

Yeah- the V8 in the car is an aluminum block. With all the accessories and fluids probably around 510 lbs. Porsche's 3.3 liter 6 is an iron block. Weighs around 540lbs. So the V8 would be lighter- if only a little- and that makes it better. A 911 that's not quite so tail happy in the turns? ok.

Also- Is that a sequential shifter??

a comment from the vid states,
"Umm according to my UPS shipping lable the LS7 is 512 lbs fully dressed +packaging(~30-40lbs) so dry(fully assembled) about 480 lbs. According to Porsche the 3.3 turbo complete is just shy of 530 pounds dry. LS7 = Aluminum block, 3.3 = Iron block. Aluminum block wins. Not to mention vastly higher power levers and more reliable"
