Well, had to settle on a "budget" couple day vacation in from 7/10-7/15 within driving range from CT.

Checked VA Beach, Cape Cod, Old Orchard Beach, etc. Settled on Atlantic City.

I've never been. I don't gamble. I just want to go somewhere, turn off my phone, get drunk and lay on the beach.

Unfortunately, review sites and the detail of the internet are driving me crazy. From wondering if I chose the right room to whether I'm going to lose my life walking from venue to venue at night has me going nuts.

Booked a Waterfront Suite at Harrah's. Planning on hitting a couple clubs, having some nice dinners, being intoxicated and getting a tan.

Any tips? Things I should worry about? Are we going to end up bored not gambling by the end of 5 days?

Oh dear... yeah you will be bored with AC after a couple days. But fear not, you can travel to other beaches and other cool spots on the shore and be amazed at all that is to offer. Look for "guides to jersey shore" and stuff like that to get a good overview of what beach area offers what. There is super-cool wilderness stuff down there too, the bay, Cape May and Wildwood are about 35 miles south. Drive down route 9 and look at the cool old scenery. Take a morning to go walking in the pine barrens - I'm not sure what state park is close to AC but look for Batsto or... well poke around. Maybe explore each morning, then get back to hotel, grab a towel and your beach chair and sit outside with a beer.

I dont think I could last 5 days in AC. Take the Cape May - Lewes Ferry and spend a day or two at the other Ocean City in MD. Yes the ferry takes cars - its a neat ride and you can relax and enjoy a drink and the ocean breeze.

And I would spend a night in Annapolis - great bars and restaurants in the main square.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

Stoked because I found out Sevendust is playing the House of Blues on my first night there. That should be cool to check out. One of my favorite bands, though they may not be one of yours.

The hotel has a 21+ saltwater pool, so that should work for lounging and reading a book for a day. Definitely want to get out to the beach and was under the impression the AC beach would be okay, but after reading reviews - Not so much.

Ocean City is out because the person I'm going with just got back from there.

I'll probably check some other beaches. I was thinking Wildwood for the whole vacation initially but couldn't find okay lodging within budget.

Seems there will be plenty to do at night, just kind of sucks that walking on the beach isn't recommended for fear of being mugged by bums. Lame.

We walked around well into the night and it seemed fine. I dont mean right on the beach but definitely the boardwalk area which is pretty well patrolled abeit often after the fact.

Few posts pretty much summed up AC in a nutshell. It's good for a few days, being 21 its a lot of fun for me and a good group of friends... depending on your age that could be different.

Gambling is fun, not constantly though, I found more fun strolling the boardwalk/beach then gambling fun... should be good weather to at least enjoy the sun and the beach. Theres plenty to do around there though, but a day in wildwood would be fun as well.

All in all its not a TERRIBLE spot to go, but wouldnt be on my top lists of vacation spots if you're looking to relax and do nothing VA Beach/OCMD would be my top choices Safe travels!!

Harrah's isn't even on the Boardwalk. It does have a nice club though (but the food's terrible). I suggest you find yourself a place actually on the Boardwalk so you can walk to the beach. The new Revel looks swanky. If not, then check out Caesar, Showboat, Bally's, various Trump casinos.

Trump plaza has the best beach and beach bar. I agree with the post above, food sucks at Harrahs. Borgata restaurants are better. I recommend Fornaletto. Ive had two great meals there. Revel is a nice day trip. Music box at Borgata usually has top notch entertainers. I would take a day trip to cape may or the Wildwood boardwalk.

Go to the new Casino Revel. That place has everything.

Other than that, AC is really no place to spend 5 days. If I were you, I'd drive to the other local beach towns (all within 20 miles of each other)

    Wildwood (great boardwalk)
Ocean City NJ (good board walk)
    Sea Isle (GREAT, CALM, Beach)

And, if you don't mind a little drive, a quick 40 minutes on the AC expressway has you in downtown Philadelphia.

Lived in NJ for 17 years. Went to AC twice. That was enough for me.
