This'll be a short thread
The only people who will be harmed by a lockout this season are the fans. I just want to watch the young Oilers score goals![]()

Not that I know of. I just start boiling whenever I see Bettman walking around with that smug little ****-eating grin of his.
Nobody seems too optimistic about a season this year.
#39
As a commissioner, why is Gary openly and strickly in owners' corner?
#40
So it seems the NHL = "No Hockey League" this season... hopefully the lockout doesn't last long, at least we have a good AHL team nearby. A lot of teams have been sending younger players down all over the league the last few days, almost as if the owners are expecting no season to take place.

Wow great, again!!!
This is going to seriously damage hockey's image... were going to lose the "casual" fans
#43
Don't keed yourselves, fans will always be back.
KHL would need to keep all the best players for us to dismiss the NHL.
#44
which is bettmans standing ground. its a total middle finger to the loyal fans who pay these outrageous ticket prices all these years.
the league made a record 3.3 BILLION, so the players have to take a paycut? and how can these so-called "broke" teams claim that the big/long contracts are the problem, but give shea webber a 14yr deal for 110m?
i thought the league was gonna go under after the last lockout, but times were a little different then...i they lose another season, they could be done.

More owner buffoonery...
Darryl Katz, owner of the Edmonton Oilers, after just striking a new arena deal with the city last year now wants the city to effectively pay for the whole thing, and is trying to play hardball with the city by scoping out Seattle. I really hope the city stands their ground on this. It's not the taxpayers' responsibility to pay their hard-earned money so that a billionaire can get richer.
Likewise, with the lockout, the players do make a lot of money, but the owners are being greedy in wanting more and more of the pie.
**** 'em all. I'm watching OHL this year, and probably for a while to come.

The past few years my college team has been doing well(even if they stunk it up while i was there). But it will be nice to get back and watch a few games this year if the lock out last as long as I think it will.

Well it still is technically the Russian Super League...these games aren't high scoring and top talent generally finishes a season with 10 or more goals.
Guys like Ovechkin and Malkin were considered superstars but couldn't even get a point per game (malkin did it once I think).

Bettman: 82-game season looks unlikely
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=644182National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman said Wednesday that an 82-game regular season is unlikely now because a Collective Bargaining Agreement is not yet in place.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the New York Islanders' move to Brooklyn starting with the 2015-16 season, Commissioner Bettman said the National Hockey League Players' Association has opted not to negotiate off the League's latest proposal, which was tabled eight days ago in Toronto and called for a 50-50 split of hockey-related revenue and would have allowed a full regular season to begin Nov. 2.
Commissioner Bettman said last week in Toronto that if a deal could be in place by Oct. 25, teams would be able to have a one-week training camp prior to the season opening Nov. 2.
The NHL and the NHLPA have not held a negotiating session since last Thursday and there are none scheduled...

Caption: "I WANT YOU to end the NHL Lockout!"
Good thing about having days off during the week, we (usually) get the rink to ourselves during public skating and can shoot around. Going again this morning!
"You've seen it, you've heard it, and you're still asking questions?!?"
"Yeah, when do we go for a ride!?!?"

NHLPA should take out a long-term loan and build their own frickin' rinks.

This pisses me off so much. I was scoffing at people saying they wouldn't come back if the lockout ended, but the fact that after the league's offer and the NHLPA's "pick one, please!" set of 3 counter offers, with agreement essentially reached on 50/50 other than defining it... **** 'em all. There's no good reason there's no season right now. They do deserve our apathy if they ever get things going.

I look at this whole strike situation a little differently than most people. I feel no sympathy for someone making the league minimum of $500,000 or greater. If someone feels that they are grossly underpaid or being treated unfairly then you can either choose to move to a different league or find a new profession that pays better. It's too bad the players are bound by the union. I bet if you asked them privately most would say that they are fine with the way things are.
Frankly, if someone paid me $500,000 per year (minimum) to take care of myself physically and play a sport that I loved I would wake up everyday and thank God for being so blessed.

this is pretty much what James Reimer said when he got his ELC and played his first season up.
