Thread: East Coast VW R Track Event presented by TrackDaze

  1. 07-21-2012 12:04 PM #106
Putting the race brakes back on today with some fresh carbotech pads and motul fluid then doing the oil change and my tech sheet.

I look forward to seeing some old friends.

Anyone have a good front or rear bumper cover they want to give me?

Finished prepping my brakes as well. I absolutely love this course but for me it was and has been the hardest on my brakes. I used to use the Motul 600 and it works great but after 4-5 hard sessions it would be/get exhausted. I'm giving the Wilwood EXP 600 Plus a try this time slightly better dry boiling point (626). Also picked up the Hard Brake titanium heat shields to help thwart off heat soak into the caliper and added some air ducting that's similar to the Audi R8 V10's to help promote air flow. Pads are Carbo Tech XP10's. I'm hoping these small changes will put me right were I wanna be at this course.

Carbotechs are great. I am running the XP12's in front and XP10's in the rear. I will have my power bleeder with me and pretty much a full tool box. Look for the Touareg with the trailer to find me.

Summit Point Motorsports Park (www.summitpoint-raceway.com) has been selected to host East Coast VW R owners as they get together to celebrate VW's R32 & Latest Golf R. Event highlights include a full “Track Day” on Summit Point's famed Shenandoah Circuit. This 2.2 mile 17 turn track includes a scale replica of the infamous Karrusell from the Nurburgring. Located in scenic West Virginia, Summit Point is conveniently located to most East Coast R owners only just over 1 hour from Washington DC & Northern VA.

A registration fee of $50.00 provides each entrant with a over 2 hours of Professional Driving instruction, Track Time, Lunch and a Custom Event t-shirt! With registration fees for High Performance Driving Events normally over $400.00, only through Volkswagen of America’s generosity and TrackDaze’s commitment to the VW enthusiast can an event like this be offered at such an amazing cost to participants.

Space for the driving portion of the event is exclusively limited to the first 150 Golf R and R32 owners. Owners interested in this portion of the event must register online to confirm participation. Registration opens 7 am EST, June 27th 2012. For more information, visit www.trackdaze.com/ecgolfr

    Hey Jeremy,

Sounds like it is going to be GREAT fun. Wish I could go ...but no matter how much time/cash I throw at my A/C I can't get it to work. Got the compressor/clutch replaced when I had an APTuning/United Motorsports Turbo SW/HW upgrade kit installed (along with other needed services done) at Induktion. Even took it to the dealer to see if they could find anything. "Pressures are all fine"..."compressor is engaging"....."no codes"....etc., etc. STILL won't blow cold. Dealer: "90% sure it's something elctrical". Continuing to search/test would have costs another $400+ in labor. I decided to call it a day. Black car, black interior ...TOO HOT to drive any long distances.

Hope to make it out there next year.

I'm out. I can't do all this in such a short period of time and the job is for sure. So I'm "selling" my spot. Anybody can have it, and I got the lap timer option. All I ask is you send a $20 donation to your local Humane Society. Who wants it?

I am sure there will be others in your boat. I will be there Friday night and camping out of my trailer is the goal.

Looks like we might be seeing a little more track time as the schedule is showing four 30 minute sessions for all groups. That is better then the Three 20 minute sessions originally mentioned.

    See you all there.

I'll take you up on this if nobody has spoken for it yet. I have seriously been on the fence about going, as I am a bit worried about running stock brakes, tires, fluids, etc...

You'll be fine. I've been on this course multiple times w/the stock brakes and fluid for that matter and held up perfectly fine for the most part.

Word to the wise, bring LOTS and LOTS of fluids for yourself!! There's a Shell station out on Rt. 7 that I usually fill up the car and get snacks/drinks, etc. I recommend you all stop there before headed out to the track.

Thanks, David. I can bring a cooler if anybody needs it. I only live 10-15 mins from the track, so I am happy to bring stuff along, whatever that may be. Perhaps I will just pick up a few extra gallons of water to throw on ice if anybody needs it.

If I don't hear back from MC-Leather, I will let you know. Definitely need to reach out to Trackdaze soon to get a helmet rental in order.

That would be pretty awesome and I'm SURE folks will need it especially if it's a bit warm.

I'm watching the weather forecast like a hawk right now. So far it looks to be pretty nice and less humid. Don't mind hot, but humid just sucks!!!

I'm officially in! A big thanks to Jay (MC-Leather) for his generosity and Jeremy at Track Daze for putting up with my barrage of emails. It's gonna be fun watching an old Honda Pilot 'round those turns!

Best place to watch is either at T16 or from the top of the hill on the bridge where you can pretty much see the whole track.

This should be a "fun" evening. I need to swap out brake pads tonight b/c tomorrow night I won't be able to AND it's like 100 degrees outside.

    Things that suck... ugh.

I'm ready, just have to pack the car. Trying to keep it as light as possible considering im bringing another set of wheels.

I'll have my VAG-COM, for those that might need it.

My brother is making the trip with me so, he'll be spectating, filming, taking pictures, etc.. Also trying his hardest to get on track, even if it's just rides with me or instructors. Trackdaze said it shouldn't be any issue.

If anyone is leaving from the tristate area around lunch, and is interested in a caravan.. LMK.

Oh and what is up with the count. I counted less than 50?? WTF?
If you need Vag-Com Contact me..

If anyone is interested, there is 100 octane Sunoco just off of 81 S at Rt30 west for 7.98/gal.
    Probably about a mile.
Don't know what they charge at the track.

    I'll also have Vag-com along.

    Peace

    Its been too long.

It would suck to watch all of the FUN and not be able to participate ....BUT ....maybe I can make it as a spectator??..... That doesn't cost anything, right?? I may have the family in tow. I'm assuming that wouldn't be a problem? Anywho....if it's not that far from the Baltimore area ...maybe I/we'll be there.

It may be HOT ...so ...when does the actual REAL track event start? So my familiy won't be pissed waiting around. Will there be concessions ...or should we bring our own?
