So today it was 101 and I figured I would put the AC on auto but when I set it to auto the temperature defaults to 72. Is this normal and can I change it? It seems like the climate control in auto mode go off of the outside temp, if hot outside blow cold inside and vice versa. What is the point to auto AC if I manually have to set the temp?

I don't know if I'm reading this right, but if I am the 72 doesn't refer to the air temperature that is blowing. It refers the the desired temp of the internal air, like setting the thermostat in your house.

If its cold and you set it to 72, then it blows hot air until you warm up to 72. If its hot out and you set it to 72, it blows cold air until you hit 72. The auto regulates the temp and the amount of airflow.

I keep it on Auto and you can set it to different temps, my wife's side at 75, mine at 72.

Again, not sure if I read your question right...just how I interpreted it...

It seemed to be blowing hot air when it was on 72 with auto on. When I adjust the thermostat the auto light switches off like its not in auto. Back in the winter it seemed fine being in auto and 72 seemed normal. I guess I just expected to see a lower temp in the summer. I'll just have to play with it. I was thinking therifht be something in the VCDS to change that's all.

That's weird...when I change the temp, the auto doesn't switch off...only if I change the fan speed...

Was the AC light on? Once I was wondering why the AC wasn't cooling as much as I expected and I finally realized that the AC mode wasn't on. I think I went from having the system off to turning it on by changing the fan speed and NOT using the Auto button. I haven't tried to recreate it, so it may be something totally different than you experienced.

Where are you making this adjustment? The center knob? Just confused because mine doesn't behave this way. The center knob adjusts the fan speed, you need to adjust the tempature with the knobs on the left or right (depending on the side). Also, did you try the Max AC button on the top half of the right knob?

It works the same as ones I have used in the past in other cars. The climate control is just tring to get to your desired temperature so it really is controlling the fan speed automatically. AC systems generally just make it as cold as possible and the fan speed reduces to blow less of the cold air to moderate the temp. Once it gets to the correct temp then I believe it can choose on its own to work between AC and not AC depending on the conditions.

The one feature I miss from my last car was that when it was cold out and the engine was not warmed up, it would wait to spool up the fan until it could actually provide warm air. I think it did the same with AC as well but not as much since blowing air was still cooling. Also, if a phone call came in, the fan speed would reduce while on a call and increase (if necessary) when ending a call.
