**August 25th**
We are putting together a drive for August 25th, Saturday. Probably leave from the Fayetteville, Chambersburg area heading south. Destination will be Bimmerfest to check out some BMW love, but we are going to have some points of interest to hit up on the way down and back to get some pictures of the cars.
Still getting details sorted, but wanted to put this out there to get some potential interest going. I'll be bringing my hoopty, and Dampine should be rocking his GTI on the way. We have several 2-ways to keep in contact, and they worked out good on the last drives.. We will be getting a route together that avoids interstates and major roadways to keep the drive interesting and not just a drag race down I81.. Sure we will find some straits to stretch out the cars, but it will NOT be a high speed run the whole time. We keep the drives relaxed as much as we can.
--Bimmerfest is held at Ripkin stadium, Aberdeen MD.

SWEEEET!
Cool site man, I will look into that. All of us work at the same place, we are working a good bit of over time ATM ($$$ to dump into my car), so we probably wont get to plan a good cruse for a while.
I hope everyone knows, you don't have to wait for us to plan something.
I would really love to see people who are lacking a dub pal to cruse with plan **** with one another and just kind of review your route and what kind of stuff you did.
All you need too have a great time is a pair of two ways and a couple cars, people on the Club WRXforums have a thread like this which is actually pretty popular.
It would be nice to build a list of people that monitor this thread, so when someone wants to go for a drive you can post and somebody will be willing to ride along.
tldr; Plan cruses with one another, I'm sure there are a lot of good VAG guys here with only JDM heads as friends that are itching to go on a drive with a Dub.

We did make the drive to Bimmerfest to support our fellow euro cars.. The show was actually rather full of decent cars, with a nice array of vendors as well. Well worth the drive!
Any drive that involves a modded mkiv supra , a '13 R, and two lambos is a good drive..
Pre-gaming..

Sorry this thread kinda died off.... The summer came and went too fast! We will be planning some drives this upcoming year! The guys that went on the route 30 run all want to do that one again, so that will be on the list for sure.
We will try to post up notice of anything that does get planned in case anyone would like to join in the fun! Word on the street is there will be a blue R joining the pack...![]()

The face of the enemy... or is that the face of people that show up....
If you are into the concept of going for drives for whatever destination reason, but are always looking for a reason to drive your car, then PM me your number and I'll get in touch when stuff comes up. Be quicker then posting here......

Great drive today...that's a sexy WR blue WRX in the pictures. The guy who owns that must have great taste.

Depending on the date and destination, I might be persuaded into joining in.
Got a MKV .:R32 that I'd gladly drive around, along with a decent (well, 5 year old Canon SLR) camera that doesn't get nearly enough use.
Only problem is wife and kid. If wife is working, kid must come along. Anyway, let me know when the next one is. I'm in Lancaster right near Park City Mall and I know South central/eastern PA fairly well.

Sounds good man! I'm trying to get some kind of show schedule in the works, so we'll be meeting and rolling out to those throughout the year for sure. Some of those might be around 2.5 hours each way, so plenty of time for some rolling shots..
We have a couple route ideas in mind, but it basically comes down to someone putting the time into researching the routes, and finding some points to stop along the way. State parks are easy targets since they are usually wide open with plenty of picture worthy areas, (bonus points for water backgrounds).
I made a quick solo trip Monday. Made it into a 7 hour roundtrip to pick up different parts to put together my roof rack setup.. Got the bars and basket on so far, need to mount the fairing yet.
Stopped at a WaWa up by Hamburg, and found a pair of mkiv Jettas hanging out.
Makes a trip extra nice when you run into some other car people out enjoying thier cars... Makes it even better when you remember each others cars from smaller shows the year before.![]()

I guess it really depends on where and how far you want to drive. I really enjoy the drive up to Canada (my wife is Canadian, so trips are usually 2 or 3 times a year), and 15N up towards NY gets pretty nice, and there's plenty of places to stop along the way.
Tioga State Forest and Loyalsock State Forest are up that way, and about 3 hours to get to from my place in Lancaster. Plenty of places around there to get some photos and such, and with the highway driving mostly, there would be plenty of places to get rolling photos if desired.
There's also Shenandoah National Forest in MD, that's 3.5 hours to get to.
The only other place that I can really think of is just driving up towards Penn State or Clearfield and hitting a number of the state parks just north of that. Could even drive around PSU as well. That as well is around 3 hours to get to. Probably a little less if you don't mind doing 75 on the highway.
Another interesting place...
http://www.pa-mag.com/2009/04/16/best-value-road-pa-44/
The drive from Lancaster to Coudersport is about 4 hours though. A bit longer than I think we would prefer.
Another supposedly great road to travel is PA125.
http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/pa125.html
Seems like a better drive overall, simply because it's more...twisty and windy. Unfortunately, as it seems, it's littered with a number of homes and stops and such, which isn't necessarily the best.
Anyway, just a few thoughts. I kinda assume we wouldn't really think of taking a trip until it gets to be a bit warmer. This really cold weather sucks right now. I'd rather just have it snow a bunch.
#54
This about sums up the longer drive options right now... Don't mind driving in the cold, just much more enjoyable with the windows down.
Those places north sound good, and if you are at least semi-familiar with them, that makes it all the smoother! We will have to get a north bound trip planned out for when the weather does break.
Thanks for the awesome response.![]()

NP. I'll be heading to Canada on Valentine's Day (long story short, wife is Canadian, and pregnant, and this is the last trip north before she delivers....needed to get it in), and 15 North is a great drive, very quiet. I haven't been on anything I listed above, but I've been nearby and the countryside really is great up that way. I'd also trust most of those sites I listed above as far as 'reputable' and such.
#56
You can see from a post on the first page, I also came across Rt.44 quite alot while I was looking around. I havent seen that particular site, but some of those pics look beautiful thats kind of scenery we want to see on a nice sceneic drive. I'm going to put my vote in for the first drive of spring (WARM DAYS ONLY) being Rt.44.
Thanks for the info as well, congrats for the birth of your progeny.![]()

Unless the weather stays decent for more then a day at a time, (or if it would land on a weekend day...), the next decent 'drives' will be to some car shows. There are hopefully two coming up in April, so I'll be posting up when it comes closer to that time.
--Campbelltown's Dust Off #2 April 21 2013
--and the show at the PA rennfair was April last year, but have not confirmed for this year...
They should both be over an hour each way, so we will prob leave early for some rolling shots, maybe stop for some pics, then take our time on the ride home. Hopefully we can find a different route back for some decent scenery.![]()

**March 9th, Saturday**
I'll be heading to Ligonier PA to sell some wheels. This will be the same route as was taken for the initial drive going route 30 over the mountains. It's a really nice scenic drive, with plenty of twisty stretches and downhill runs.
This trip is just coming together, but wanted to put it out there so anyone interested could keep next saturday open!
The return trip is still undecided, but will either double back route 30 like last time, or we could make a big loop north some then head back. Probably leave from the Chambersburg area around 8am or so. There are plenty of national parks and other places to stop for breaks and pictures, so those will be plotted into the trip. I'm sure I'll be the slowest car as usual, so don't think it will be a high speed run or anything crazy. We like to stretch the cars out, but not be out of control...
I'll post up more as it comes together. Be sure to post up or PM with any questions of suggestions for this trip.![]()

Might be down for this, not sure yet ATM. Going to have to check my schedule. Route 30 runs right past my house in Lancaster. So we'll see. :-)
#64
Sounds good! You'll be warmed up and into your drive til you even meet up with us past Gettysburg. We'll be running 30 West, but I'll be getting on between Gettysburg and Chambersburg from my house. If you come from Lancaster, then get on 234 after York, you'll come right past my house. You are welcome to meet me here, or if the one guy goes, he's coming from York area so we could set it up to meet up with him, (not sure if he works at this point though***), then you guys would already be in the 'drive' groove.![]()

Have a hand full of people who are good to go for Saturday! Planning on stopping at the windmills for pictures again, and maybe at the large auto scrap yard that we passed by last time... looked to be a lot of Vdubs resting there...
Post up or PM me with any questions or anything. Probably be meeting up at the Sunoco in Fayetteville around 8, then heading west on rt30. We can certainly pick up more cars along the way...![]()

Just a note, this will be rain/snow/sleet/shine. I understand if some don't want to go out and about in bad weather, so if you can go great. If not, there will be more over the summer!![]()

I'll be keeping an eye out for the next one. Does anyone out there live in the Allentown/reading/philly area? I'm in Quakertown.
