A friend's co-worker is the rider in this video. Really close call, watch to the end. Pretty good example of target fixation subconsciously, no time to react.

vtec is no joke

What a complete moron! It was a double yellow and he's overtaking.. Where in Ontario was this?
#6
This kind of stuff is what keeps me off of a motorcycle... If that shoulder hadn't have been there, he'd be dead.
#7
I am SO f*cking glad your friend's coworker and that rider behind him made it through this with no harm. This sort of sh*t is what made me so paranoid when riding. I had something like this happen to me while up in the mountains around a blind corner. Like this rider, I had luck/skill on my side. Doesn't stop you from being scared for a long while afterwards though.

realistcallly 0 response time. if you watch it real time and think about how long it would take you to realize what was actually happening that a super close call.
#9
That's a problem for anyone on the road, bike or car. Passing on a double yellow ON A HILL no less.I will give the guy a modicum of credit for diving off the road completely to avoid the hit.

Wouldn't that be a near hit?
I mean, they did miss. But it was nearly a hit..
Just as bad as "could care less"

No I don't fault the rider at all, but a subtle thing I found interesting is the target fixation (hands follow the eyes) that is always discussed in racing schools etc. He gets closer to the car because he locks onto it with his vision and without deciding to he ends up closer to the white line.
Just a side note that I found interesting in the video.
Regarding where this was (from what I gather) it was on Airport road on their way to or from Wasaga Beach is all
I heard. As for a locale I have no idea to be honest.

I would have turned around and went after the guy, at least get a plate number to report him

Then you'd be following jackasses all day and never get to your destination. I've been riding for 10 years and close calls happen all the time, you learn to accept it and go on with you day.
Worst on I had was when I was riding on a 4 lane road 2 in each direction, I was coasting to red light, light turns green I accelerate and next thing I know I hear a air horn and tires screaching. Look right just in time to see the grill of a semi (peterbuilt). I had to stop check my pants and chain smoke about 10 cigarettes!
I still get chills thinking about it...![]()

In 20+ years of riding I've only gone after a f-tard once. In that case, the car pulled out of a stop sign as I was approaching the intersection on the main road (no stop sign) - there was no time to stop, I swerved into the lane for the opposite direction and missed the car, then stopped and turned around and went after it. The driver stopped and rolled down the window and was extremely apologetic - he knew he had screwed up - I hope he took my short lecture on "look twice, save a life" to heart.
For the video given here ... that was a close call. The problem here is that it's a crapshoot whether to go towards the center of the road and hope the wrong-way vehicle goes past on the wrong side, or go towards the side of the road and hope the wrong-way vehicle goes back into their own lane. I have heard of head-on collisions that happened in the ditch because both drivers made the call to swerve off the road. Doesn't matter bike or car, head-on at highway speed is ALL bad.
I don't like riding on busy two-lane roads for much this reason.

If they were riding Can-Am Spyders, they probably would've been creamed since the bike is so much wider.![]()

this is why i can't ride. Too many idiots on the road.![]()
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

Wow.
Passing on double yellow on blind hill? What an idiot.
But.. the driver did veer left off the road to avoid hitting the motorcyclist. Instinctual? Idk.

Wow, that was close. I had nightmares about that happening to me while I was driving back country roads all the way into Shottenkirk Iowa, I still remember this specific 1 turn that was a major 3 road intersection with only 1 stop sign and kinda blind sides all the way in. Only had a close call ones when it was raining once and a semi decided to blow right thru it (I was driving an SUV) had to go into the ditch to miss him.
I bet the guys in the car were not particularly well after that one incident.
Why yes; that she tropper has sideburns...

Honda driver deserves to loose their license for being so stupid.
Crossing double yellow (not turning into a driveway)
Not signaling.
Reckless driving.
You can add attempted murder to that list.

No, you hate Moonroofs. Sunroofs have metal panels and are 'all or nothing'. Closed, they offer the same as a non-sunroof car, and open is self explanatory. Second generation golfs and jettas have Sunroofs and are by far my favorite. I don't believe newer vehicles are available with sunroofs though, as all I've seen are glass moonroofs these days.
That Honda deserves a high five for driving off the side of the road in time to save their lives. I understand that was ridiculously close, but if it's legal to overtake cars on a 2 lane road, he simply made a mistake. A BIG mistake, that obviously cost him quite a lot, but not someone's life. This is one of the reasons I sold my street bike after putting 15k miles on it. Too many close calls, and too many idiot drivers. I like having a cage around me.

Not in PA. No painted lines on roadways may be used for traffic control devices. Traffic control devices must always be mounted on a sign/pole/etc. This is typical in states that often have snow covered roads. Also, if you've ever been stuck behind a large farm vehicle, and haven't seen a "No Passing" sign in the past few miles, you'll be happy that the law allows you to pass.

The biker had enough time to react and veer towards the center line, in which case Civic could just overtake instead of ending up in a ditch possibly hurting or killing its passengers (by the way are they ok?). On the other hand maybe the crash will teach the driver a sobering lesson he wouldn't otherwise receive.

Hardly, especially on a motorcycle where it would be very easy to catch up with a car. And one could certainly use ones judgement as to whether it would be dangerous or not to chase them down.
And really, I doubt you could tell me that you wouldn't be so enraged after that happened that you could let it go....
Didn't read the post, nor watch to the end
I experience jackasses all the time both in my Caterham (it's a 4 wheel motorcycle) and on my bicycle too. But this wasn't someone just making a dumb mistake at driving, they blatantly were passing ( I am assuming) in a no passing zone up a blind crest, that deserves a bitch slap
