Hey everyone. So like the the title says, I took my carpet out and found what looks like salt, water and holes. Anyone see anything that seems worrisome? I'm new to this so not sure what I'm looking for. Also can I just put the rubber gaskets back in or can I replace them....or what.

Same situation for me. I had an eight inch long patch in the rear passenger side, directly behind the seat rail. It was an interesting learning process for me, a buddy and myself patched it over the course of four days using the lift at school whenever we had a chance. I ended up cutting out more than I had anticipated, the contour of the pan is difficult to replicate.

On first glance, it LOOKS like just surface rust/flaking paint/flaking sound deadener. Start poking the areas with a screwdriver and see if it goes through. That's a sure test for rotten sheet metal. You could jut vacuum the stuff up and call it good.

If those holes rotted, they would look like this, or worse:

The curves in the floor are tricky, but not impossible, and after you get the hang of it, they're fun! Here's some of my handiwork from November 2011. I first started welding a month earlier.

This used to be those two holes that are right next to each other in the backseat footwell.

I thought the holes looked fairly good. I will poke around with a screw driver tonight. Can the rubber stoppers be just put back in or since thy were loose does that mean I need to replace them.

I would also look at the holes from under the car. If they're still fine, put them back in and get some more undercoating around them.

As soon as I saw the thread title and "last post by bariman82" I thought... oh boy, Bariman's schooling someone with his extensive knowledge.

Seriously dude, you're more or less the mk3 rust guru at this point.

Thanks, but I decline. I've been welding since October. I also can't keep up with Dan J Reed.

    Meh. Thats nothing:

I ended up just cutting out the rust, slathering everything with POR-15, and riveting on some new metal (since I had no welding capabilities at the time).

Just get a big spot light into the sky at night with a big B on it, Bariman82 will swoop in during the night and fix it all.

its all fixable, just a matter of it being worth it to you.

Floor rust is pretty easy to cut out and weld.
