Went to the Strawberry Festival in London (meh.) Dragged my girlfriend to the Cobra show right next door, and we both enjoyed it. She liked the looks of the cars, I liked dreaming about having one. And, they were giving rides ($10 for a charity) so I went. Cops had a section of city street blocked off; most of the cars got off the line quick, made it to 70 or so. Too short, but awesome.

Why should the cops drown him in a pool?

Well, they were selling kits for, I believe, $50-60k for chassis, plus $25k or so for drivetrain? So, I'm guessing a real one is more like $150-200k... When I saw the $50k without realizing it was just for the chassis, I almost started thinking I could afford one someday

Depends on who you go with. A nice replica can be built for under 25k. You'd have to source your own 302 from a junkyard.

The replicas from companies like Factory Five and others go for $20k or less to $40k and up on the used market. Even my friend's EM replica with a 528 hemi he feels wouldn't go for much over $45k if that.

Complete kits are just under $20k, you supply the Engine/Transmission/Rear End with Rear Brakes, Wheels and Tires, Paint, Fuel pump.

Real cobras are six and in some cases seven-figure affairs.

As long as there weren't any Chevy powered Cobra replicas. I can't stand those.

Even for an AC? Is there a difference between an AC and a Shelby besides the motor? I know nothing about Cobras and I was kind of referring to having an AC.

Yea, real Cobras are no poor man's venture. Although if the kit cars are done well I say they are better (hear me out) because I would not have the balls to drive a real one around, anywhere, ever. With the reps you could actually enjoy it.

The MkI and II cars were pretty close. The MkIII (427) saw a LOT of changes.

The one that recently burned up is probably worth $150-200k

Do you think values will vary based on Carroll's signature on the glove box? With only 1005 Cobras, I'm sure he signed all of them. Anything that gets burned now may lose that. Even though it will be rebuilt, that signature can not be re-applied.

Hey, it was a guess. I'm obviously no expert. There were some real ones there, but I guess I didn't get pix of them. The one I rode in was a replica. The prices I saw were probably for complete chassis, etc., so yeah, I'm sure building is cheaper.

I was just happy to walk amongst them, real or not, and take a ride on a city street. I envy the owners, burning out repeatedly with police support. My girlfriend was put off by the fire extinguishers mounted between the seats on most, as if it meant the cars were certain to catch fire. Me: "Wouldn't you rather have it handy in case something happens, rather than having your [insert price here] car burn up?" "Noooo, no. It makes me nervous."
