After owning five Audis in a row, I'm back to VW. Picked up my 2012 V6 TDI Lux yesterday. So far I'm impressed.

One question so far: Manual says there should be a factory installed insert in the rear seat cupholder. Anyone get this? Can't find mine.

    TIA

    John

Same here. Ditched my Q5 for a TDI Lux. Welcome. I'm also very impressed with the vehicle.

I moved over from an A5. Test drove the Q5 3.2 extensively. Nice car as well, but I was not wowed in the same way as when I took the TDI out for the first time; bigger, heavier, nicer on the highway, great performance, and you still end up better off at the pump.

Had an '06 V-6 Touareg, moved to a car A-4, now we have A-4 and a new 2012 TDI Sport Touareg.
If had to go with one vehicle it would be the 2012 Touareg TDI, no questions.

Back to my original post: Did you get that rear seat cupholder insert with your 2012?

I did not get a rear cupholder insert, but if you find out more let us know.

Mine just has the standard cupholders in the rear center armrest and already had one drink tip over....arghhh. Luckily spill was minimal.

Absolutely for fit and finish and quality of materials. Mechanically, time will tell.

I'm liking the change and have no sense of "buying down" with this vehicle.

Thanks for the info. I've only seen it in the manual. Maybe been superseded by a new upholder design.

Thinking about upgrading from 2012 R-line CC to either the VR6 or TDI besides the gas mileage which would is nicer to drive?

The torque curve of the TDI matches the vehicle very well. 70mph cruising is at 1800rpm which is sedate as well as efficient. Rarely have to rev the engine much past 3000. Driving the limit at 30mpg+ is easy. If you need more 26+ is still obtainable.

IMHO, the TDI makes the Touareg. Probably would have gone with the Q5 if I went gas. The economics of the diesel might even make sense if you count resale value in the equation.

We have an '11 Q5 Premium Plus 2.0T and a '12 T-Reg TDI Lux and the Touareg won me over hands down. I love my GTI and it would be a hard choice between the two for me.
