Hoping someone here will be able to help with this. I have already called 2 Malibu boat dealers and neither could answer my question. Should mention its a 1995 Malibu Echelon with a inboard motor. I have searched every where and can not figure it out. I want to be certain I get the boat back together right before I try and start it.

Where should the battery ground to, negative starter post or engine block?

In my 87 Prostar (direct drive 351) the negative battery cable was grounded to the engine block. You can just barely see it below the port side exhaust manifold.

I replaced the cable once during my ownership of the boat and cleaned the connection every year before I put the boat on the water. The battery was located under the observer seat so it was a much shorter run to the front of the engine block than the starter.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the help. I also stopped by the local dealer and they happened to be working on a similar model and I also saw that its grounded on the block. The cable had enough length to make it safely to the starter thats why I was unsure.
