This doesn't sound good for any uninformed customers coming from the manufacturer.
    Just saying.

So if it happened to bshr why not improve on the design of the hood prop, make it metal not a plastic base?

So a bsh part breaks causing a dented hood. If there is zero user error in this case will bsh be helping with the costs of repairing the hood?

And on top of this a guy who works at bsh admits publicly that the same thing happened to his car (indicating there may be an issue with the hood prop). Not good bsh.

I gotta say I've been in and outta this thread peaking here and there. Obviously the title caught my attention. Then realizing they went from a stock intake with stg2 apr I was kinda turned off especially when I saw pics. Piping everywhere, changing the hood prop, the heavy exaggeration with the dyno number is pretty much weak sause. Now people are EFFing up their hoods?

It does say RIGHT there in the install instructions to remove the factory parts AND the little knob on the hood or whatever OR YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR HOOD. I remember it plain as day. I did not dent my hood because I FOLLOWED the instructions? I am sorry you guys had that happen to you. It even happened to the kid that works at BSH. Honestly guys.... READ the instructions, it saves A LOT of heartache....

Thank you, I tried for 10 minutes to do that. I cannot even figure out how to upload my pics. Tells me they are too big. Anyways, I sent quite a few pictures to BSHR to post up on here. Different angles, fitment, personal mods to the system(my hood prop), and where I rub.

On a personal note, PERSONALLY; I love the sound when you hit the bowerband, the insane sucking swoosh sound. PEOPLE; they tell me it sounds like a jet going into afterburner ha ha ha. I can see where they get it from. 3rd gear and 4th sometimes 5th is insane JUST from installing this intake. Butt dyno DEFINITELY notices quit a difference!

All I did was find the image they posted a couple of pages back, right clicked, copied the image link, and placed the [IMG] tags around it

    Not to get TOO off-topic but you can go to a site such as: http://imgur.com/ , http://tinypic.com/ , photobucket.com , imageshack.us

Upload your pictures there, at which point you'll get some links. You want the "BBCode" links, or ones that have an [IMG] tag around them. Then you can just paste those in here.

Going back to the intake itself. I've had the VWR on and this one on now. Hard to compare the two hand in hand, but the sounds they give off are a bit different after personally driving with them in my own car. A word of advice is that it sounds way different when you hear your own car coming at you vs when you are driving it. One of my buddies drove my car around the block at H2O wit the VWR intake on and i made the faces when i heard it

It's funny how you guys are flipping out saying the guy with the dented hood didn't read the instructions.

If you actually read his post on what happened you would see thathe had his hood open while detailing the car. The new bsh hood prop broke making the hood fall onto to prop thus denting the hood.

How is that not reading the instructions? That sounds like a defective part to me in that the prop broke under the weight of the hood.

My hood prop broke. So if I need to do anything with it I keep the oem prop and ball in the hatch.

I see two main issues here really. The rubbing on the bottom which can be fixed, and the hood prop

I'm at work but I have the broken one in my car. The hood prop is an assembly in which a child component threads into the end of the steel shaft near the point that mounts the prop to your car. The issue with this revolves around two things: first, the plastic is very brittle. Since there is no ductility in the plastic it breaks right offa under what seemed to be little load. Two, the plastic functions as a fastener; good in the ideal world, but not so much when that point see's a lot of force in the form of rotational torque. The sharp radii of the threads fuction as points in which high stresses can develop (high K1C stress concentration factor values) and plastic part right off and leaving part of it in the rod. I told BSH about it because it happened to me THE FIRST DAY I had it on the car and they said they had metal ones coming. I just home they arent dissimilar metals in which galvanic corrosion can occur.

    Haven't heard back since

It was jumping to the last page not flippin out buddy ;-) I didn't feel like reading EVERY post in the thread.

That is super unfortunate that his prop broke. I knew Bears broke a while back. I have used mine numerous times. It is not installed, I just turn the eyelet sideways and wedge it in one of the holes on the left side. Works like a charm every time.

I don't understand how the rods break though? I know it has happened, not saying it didn't, I just don't see that rod bending, breaking, anything? We will see if mine ever goes?

    Mmmmm CW

Hope a breeze doesn't push that open then the prop drops out and damages that purity hood. That would suck!

Read my nerd paragraph above and it explains exactly how it breaks.

I really applaud BSH for their effort, competition in the marketplace is always a good thing. But I am also very happy that I bought the overpriced, hose rubbing monster, VWR intake

It's Friday...I need a beer, don't take the sarcasm personally

I'll retort with some more sarcasm!

I'm glad I saved $300 more than you and bought an intake that doesn't rub anything, performs nearly the same and looks even better!

The BSH intake seems awesome and is awesome for overall power and performance, there are just too many sacrifices for me personally. No catch can, no engine cover, no OEM hood strut...

Hmm, I recall the only "intake ruptured a hose thread" being caused by the wintake

Going to have a couple beers at lunch however (I know you are all concerned) so I should be able to make it through the afternoon just fine...

Isolated case, pretty sure it was an installation issue, but I'll concede your point and hand you a virtual !

so far there is only been one case of the joint just braking out of the blue.. myself and everyone else has said they just forgot and went to close there hood and broke the hood prop and there hood in the process.

Also in case you have not seen or noticed the new mk7 gti use the same design as the PR( minus the snorkel part) Mostly straight and short and not over the turbo.
