Honestly, I think Matt did too good of a job here to pick bits and pieces to quote. Just do yourself a favor and go read the article.

Dan Neil is a Jeremy Clarkson wannabe. Why would Tesla want to go down that road again?

Dan's original article.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...hatsNewsSecond
The Model S offers a choice of three battery packs: 40, 60 and 85 kWh capacity, corresponding to a highway range/acceleration of 160 miles/6.5 seconds, 230/5.9 seconds, and 300/5.6 seconds, respectively. The Signature Performance edition couples the biggest battery with those twin power inverters and hotter software.
And I am still perplexed and skeptical of the mileage claims.
The Leaf has 24 kWh battery and can go maybe 85 miles on a charge.
How can this MUCH heavier and sportier Tesla go twice that on a battery that is just 40 kWh?
It will be interesting to see real world range figures.![]()

Or maybe you could stop airing Jalopniks dirty laundry. They're just sour grapes that Elon Musk hates them (rightly so) and they keep going public with this political rubbish hoping someone will feel sorry for them.
It's got to stop. You're just feeding the Jalopnik troll.

ugh. its like a continuous stoner rant on something practically irrelevant. and this is like the fifth freakin article. this time he goes as far as to call tesla out on taking government money and how that makes them obligated to give car reviewers more time behind the wheel. really?![]()

The best way to get back at them would be to talk about the car instead of talking about them.
Just my 2 cents.

Difference in battery chemistry?
The same way one of the new lithium type batteries lasts much longer than the traditional gold and black duracell. Both cars say li-ion batteries but Tesla lists specs as many more individual battery cells, and that accounts for the additional size of the Tesla battery. Chop it in half and it still has more battery cells than the Leaf.

Was just looking at the specs, and I didn't know the Model S was slightly bigger than a 5 series. I have to admit I doubt the range claims now that I've seen the numbers. We'll find out eventually I guess.![]()

I didn't delete any of my own posts actually, you can thank a moderator for that.
As far as I'm concerned the mods might as well lock up the thread because folks like you seem to insist on posting unprovoked complaints about Jalopnik rather than the content of the article posted. This isn't the "Journalism Critique Lounge."
I think I do a good job of recognizing that some people don't like Jalopnik, and I put it in the subject almost every time so that folks who have a problem with it can skip the thread if they choose. That's apparently not enough for some people and they just get off on complaining.

Well.. it might be better form to post a link to the original article (Dan's WSJ link) than to a site trying to use the other journalist's article for their own purpose (to which I have no idea what it would be other than to increase click traffic).
Doe you have any Brenda Priddy pictures you want to post?![]()
