I dont have 600-800 to spend on a catback, nor will i for a while (college student) so i am looking into an ebay exhaust. Anyone have any feedback on these? looks like a pretty basic setup that resembles other more expensive setups, although i know the quality wont be the same. I am just afraid of it being too loud/bad drone

    this ^^

Or find a nice used catback in the classified. A brand you know you can rely on.

Oorrrrr, just have your suitcase muffler removed and replaced with mandrel bent SS pipe and exhaust tips

Less than both. If you want to make it easy to switch between the two have them put v-band connectors on the ends.

it sactually pretty funny you should ask this as there are a lot of videos up on youtube about what your are talking about. my buddy did this last week and he cut his muffler and reso off the car to be replaced with straight pipe it ctually sounds really good and isn't all that loud as you would think. under load it makes noise but the drone is not as bad as one would think either heres the video

You couldn't be more incorrect. If you are concerned about ricey sounds, good luck with the ebay catback...should sound a lot better

Either way, your money good luck

So you just removed the rear suitcase and left the reso on. Sounds good. I would really like to hear it under load

That is just the suitcase. From what I've read, it would be a bit more raspy with the resonator out too. IMO it is no where as loud as the honda crowd with the fart cans.

this guy knows whatsup, cheap exhaust is gonna cause you nothing but problems throwing CEL and depending on where you live and who you know in the dealership possibly voiding your warranty, which as a student, you dont need (coming from a student). If your going to do anything performance to your car get a good EVOMS V-flow and stage1 software. Trust me youll be happy

ps: these cars arent expensive (30k). Theyre not meant to be fancy but keep it classy man, tons a peeps pickin up GTIs and washing em out with ebay crap. go big or go home, gotta pay ta play do it right or not at all.

I just love how everyone assumes if it's sold on e-bay for 1/3 of the price, its sux. I am not saying it is great product either, but putting down a product without any knowledge about it is downright ignorant.

I have a 10 Tiguan 6M w/APR. Same front and mid as GTI, but more of a single haf-suitcase muffler, that I Initially, I wanted to get a DP and a new programme, but after looking into the 3" DP, I pretty much realized that, if anything, the 2.5" DP would be better. (refer to the AWE page on this) Settling on the Megan Racing 2.5" from AMazon was a good bet for $165-ish.

However, after considering the fact the oem is 2.25", not exactly small, and the potential CEL and OXY issues, but MOSTLY due to the fact that in a turbo app, the interface of DP, cat and resonator is something that must be (and is) tuned to being optimized at the factory.

Sooo, I figured that best/cheapest/easiest was to lop off the suitcase, add a short oval muffler and a tip. The res tames the high tones, so idk why anyone would remove it. In selecting a muffler, going with the flow (pun intended), Magnaflow and Borla have the market cornered as far as I'm concerned. I saw Magnaflows that I could use (offset/centre) on Amazon for as low as $40! As broke as I am at the moment, I went for the Borla for $100 instead.

Few here would convert to a single exhaust, nttawwt, but imo the dual-straitpipe rear (leaving everything forward of the alone) a Y config like many people do when removing the suitcase, butdoing it with a small round-body muffler on each side....THAT would be a great set-up.

My muffler comes today and the tip soon. The shop is walking distance and they quoted me under $100. I'll report back for reference sake when it's installed. I'm not looking for power, more for a sporty sound (wince, I'm old). Hey, who wants to drive a manual 2.0T w/APR and have a stock exhaust anyway?! Also, I don't have and don't plan on an intake. I just poped out the diffuser in the airbox under the air filter element...doesn't everyone???

^ All of this x2. The exception being, the catback isn't really a power enhancing modification--it is for sound. Somewhere on the MKVI subforum it was discussed ad nauseum. At best you save some weight and maybe add a little HP/TQ depending on the size of pipe/flow/etc. If people are wanting power the DP is the big limiting factor in the factory exhaust.

The issue of the Oxygen sensor CEL is due to elimination of the front catalytic converter (that is attached to the downpipe flange) and having all the work dependant on the now, primary catalytic converter, which is normally a high-flow type, made for flow, not conversion efficiency.

The megan racing downpipe is not made for a ea888 engine. The flange holes are wrong. And... if you have a CBFA, it's missing a oxygen sensor bung. Not to mention, there are no catatytic converters on the megan racing downpipe. Congrats... you just wasted $166-ish.

the OEM setup is optimized to meet emissions, longevity of the catalysts for emissions, and noise.

this... or delete a resonator somewhere for more rasp. I wouldn't cheap out on an exhaust and risk it sounding like crap... so you'd be driving a sweet ride that sounds like rice...

The downpipes all interchange as far as fitment. Adding another bunghole for a CFBA is no problem either.

No they don't without modification. YOu'll have to modify the slot the downpipe flange holes to make it a universal fitment.

...and PA is a CARB state, for vehicles MY2008 or newer.... and your megan racing downpipe won't pass the visual check, since it is catless.
