So you have a degree in fine arts? I'm not sure how you can swing that in your favor. However...having a degree is a plus. It will certainly make service managers, dealer principles, and shop foremen take a closer look at your resume when it crosses their paths. If you find yourself applying to a dealer that services high end, luxury, or generally expensive automobiles you will be on the top of the resume stack. Most of the high end dealers are fed up with the typical dirt bag auto techs that fill the employee pool.
I have a BS in Business Management. After that I too made a career change and went to tech school. From there I was a Porsche tech for about 6 years and now I'm working for a high end manufacturer as a Field Service Engineer. Without my degree there is no way I'd be where I am today. PM me if you have any questions. Feel free to search my username too. I've responded to loads of threads about UTI and techs schools.
Good luck
