Hey guys this issue started about 8 months ago while on a trip up to NY. Its a constant whirring noise that is RPM dependent. The noise follows the engine rpm from idle up until redline. I replaced the tensioner thinking thats what it was but that didn't fix it. I can't think what else it could be. Sounds like its coming from the accessory side of the engine too. Maybe the water pump? Power steering pump? I checked the alternator when I was doing the tensioner and it was tight with no play. I have the Gruvenparts intake shifter bushings but I don't think thats the issue.

    Any help would be grrrr-eight

Grab a long handle screwdriver or something long like that.. you need to put one end on an accesorie and your ear to the handle.. this will help you pinpoint its exact location...

The water pump will be the hardest to determine since there really isnt a way to get to the backside of the pulley... the pulley conceals the pump.. so if you try this method on every other accesorie and come up with nothing... good chance it could be that..

Now I went through this a while ago and everything checked out.. turned out it was my AC compressort pulley.. the bearing was shot! You can get a new pulley with a pre-pressed bearing on eBay, you could even get just the bearing on eBay as well or a rebuild kit.. Which consists of Pulley, Bearing, Shims, Electro Mag and, AC clutch.... prices will range from $20-$120, depending on what route you plan on going...

Hope this gets you going in the right direction..

Thanks for the help, I was hoping it wasn't the A/C because i revved it with the clutch engaged and disengaged and the sound remained consistent. It sounds exactly like the secondary air stays running. Its driving me mad haha

Loosen the accessory belt and check to see if any of the bearings are worn out. You can also use a hose to see if the noise is coming from the timing chain side. Other than that, maybe check for vacuum leaks????

If its timing chain side I'm burning the car down and collecting the insurance money haha. I'm 99.999 percent positive its accessory side, Im betting its the water pump or the power steering pump. Hose is a good idea though, thanks for the help any other input would be great!

Just thought I'd update. It was the power steering pump. I know this because on the way to the shop to fix it the pump came apart.
