You have a lot of posts but you should have listened to dOWa242.
"Jason,
My suggestion to you is to find a $5-600 running mk3 (complete car) and make the swap happen. At least you'll know that you had a car that ran to begin with. And in the end you should be ok and hopefully not have to guess and source parts to much.
Then scrap the mk3 shell. "
You're drooling over a hybrid engine, sitting assembled on an engine stand that needs rings? WHO assembles an engine that needs rings without doing the rings? Maybe someone who doesn't know what else it needs?
You should look at other people's cars, decide what you want and focus your search.
Unless you have special skills, you'd be miles ahead by sourcing an entire drivetrain from a donor vehicle even if you need to rent temporary space for the donor.
If you're REALLY LUCKY like I was you could find a completed engine whose history you could verify. Techtonics stroker 2L kit for a JH 8V with porting work done by Collin(saw the reciepts). Machine work by Morgan's Speed and Marine - the best speed shop in Contra Costa County. Even though I had this head start and was replacing an existing JH 8V in my Cabby, it was lots of work to get everything right.
Good luck with your search.
