My cousin has a race buggy with a water-cooled VW motor and he is switching over to an EcoTec. The engine has a complete Bertils cross-flow head with valve cover and intake with a single side-draft Weber 45 DCOE. Just wondering how much the head would be worth. Thanks.

Is this a head off one of the 10-built USF3 engines, or was it specially done by Bertils? Post more info on the specs.

I have no idea what that would be worth, but if this was off an USF3-spec motor, well, those complete motors used went for around 12 grand. I remember something like 3 grand just for the throttle body assembly's. So if this is one of the solid lifter AEG heads, it worth a LOT.

We will try to pull the head and get some specs on it this week. It may be from one of the Bertils 1600cc "Blitz" engines built for CORR short course off-road racing.

The head he is describing, it almost sounds like the heads they used on the 'special' 1600cc heads 30 years ago. Solid lifter capable of a comfy 10,000rpm redline. Which means, not only a stout head, but with enough flow capacity to make torque that high. NOT a street motor head, thats for sure, as its port flowed for maximum cfm up top and carrying a very large profile cam. (i.e. no bottom end)

Regardless, like stated, it's worth a lot to the right buyer. Anything Bertils is no joke. Very curious on the details and photos of the head.

From the web archives of Bertils website:

"1600cc "Blitz" Motor (left). Based on the New Beetle engine, this eight valve, crossflow, single Weber-carbureted engine is built for off-road racing in C.O.R.R."

Unfortunately the pictures weren't archived. Sounds like a de-stroked AEG.

I don't have any pictures of the head yet, but did pull some numbers off the cam. BR-617E35.0 11-06 I'm not sure if those are any of the specs or just a part number.

It's most likely going to be a 288*, but there were 300*+ cams in other heads as well.

Sorry for the quality, but we do have pics now. The valves measure at 42mm intake and 35mm exhaust.
