I need some help, Ive almost got my 85 gti back on the road after saving it from the junk yard. Ive gone through my bentley manual many times but still cant figure this out. Its an 85 GTI with CIS-E injection BTW

Whats going on is the car will not stay running when the CTS is plugged in and runs very rich when its not plugged in, I belive its running rich since its in limp mode since CTS is plugged in, when ever its running and I plug it in, it bogs down idles like crap then dies, and doe not rev normal when I press the accelerator.

I've checked all grounds, there are no vacum leaks, put in a new CTS, Ive bench tested my o2 sensor and it looks to be working. I think it could come down to a wiring problem.

Anyone have an idea why the car wont stay running with CTS plugged in?

Please help me get this gti back on the road! Any help/tips/ideas would greatly be appriciated.

    thx

i am not familiar with more basic systems than the passat 9a cis-e motronic but if the issue revolves around the CTS i can think of 2 options....

either the CTs is causing the ecu to dump too much fuel and it is choking the engine; or it is starving the engine for fuel.

if your car has a 02 sensaor; can you put a test harness between the o2 pigtail and the engine side connection by the engine mount on the passenger side?
that way you can see what the voltage does at the moment you unplug or plug the sensor back in.

that will tell you if it is dumping too much fuel or starving the engine for fuel.

the higher the voltage the higher content of fuel in the exhaust gas stream= flooding.
