Me and the wife a debating about moving to the portland area with in a year or so. I am looking for some info on locations to live for a young couple. With a large dog and chickens. We will be moving from AZ. I don't know much about Portland only the airport. Used to live out in Florence during summers with my grandparents. So any help would be great!

Most places in portland you are going to love. I'd stay away from Gresham and I've heard a lot of people bitch about Beaverton as well. You may want to check out St John neighborhood or the ever famous Hawthorne area if you wanna be a full time hipster. Downtown is alright too if your'e into urban living.

Vancouver. Times a billion. Especially if you're planning on having kids any time soon. The schools here actually function.

I am not sure of we are looking to live down town. I would love to find a house with some land to have for the dog wouldn't mind a suburb of Portland.

I must say the Northwest is great. My wife and I moved here a few years ago from upstate New York with our two dogs and chickens. It was the best decision we ever made. We moved to Tigard on the boarder of Beaverton because we found a place on Bull Mountain with 3+ acres, 2000+ square feet, 3 car garage and a chicken coup. After a while the traffic got the best of us. My commute to downtown would usually take over an hour and going to the grocery store was a huge pain because we usually had to take route 99 to the store (which is a nightmare). Personally I would stay out of away from Tigard or Beaverton. We ended up just moving to Vancouver since rent was increasing all over the Portland metro area and it’s still close enough to everything including downtown Portland. Plus if you work in Vancouver you'll have no income tax.
