hey guys I want to make a custom spiltter for my car.
I was wondering what type of metal I should use? I was thinking a sheet of aluminum.
also, when you see the front of splitters they have 2 steel wires (or something similar) connecting the splitter to the bumper, where can I find something like this?
the wires I am talking about (or devices to connect the splitter to bumper) are in the first picture here: http://aprperformance.com/index.php?...=174&Itemid=44
The two small things are turnbuckles. They keep the splitter from being pushed down and also allow some adjustment, as to the angle of the splitter.
Something like this would work. But it all depends on how you want to mount them.
thanks for the info guys. Can I find turn-buckles at any local stores like autozone, o reilys, napa, home depot, ect..?
The splittler doesn't have to be metal I was just assuming metal was the best way to go. Any material that would be easy to work with (cutting, drilling) would be best. What else did you have in mind Bazmcc?
Aluminum will work. So will carbon and fiberglass. I imagine carbon is what Bazmcc had in mind.
abs plastic sounds nice but I don't think any local stores sell sheets of them unless you guys know of any types of stores that would have them.
Thanks for the turnbuckle help will check out lowes and home depot.
If I can't find abs plastic I might just buy a sheet of aluminum and put dynoc carbon fiber sheets on it, should actually look pretty good.
google "plastic, (your zipcode)" and see if there's a warehouse nearby. or go to usplastic.com or similar sites, they have raw sheet.
I think you'd want 3/16 or 1/4 thick so it wasn't too flexible (I've seen the pressure on top of a splitter bend them down into the road surface at speed, granted that's on a stupid low car to begine with)
also i would consider riveting a strip of aluminum sheet along the leading edge for an extra bit of stiffness.
