Pretty funny. This is obviously a case of your failure to read the thread title. It didn't ask anything about removing a basement post, just dressing it up.
It seems that it is you that opined on a question that was never asked, no?Is there anything we can do to make the pillar in our finished basement useful or at least not such an eye sore?![]()

Thank you, I love my post with the bistro table, pictures above. Gets lots of use, and no issues with people trying to abuse it yet via leaning/jumping/climbing.
They make circular ones too, but I was aiming for more modern/contemporary straight lines.

My contractor custom made it, but it was the same idea as the kits... Two pieces then glued together around the post.
Stained it after it was in place, and the bistro table has a ton of varnish to allow it to get wet from cans/bottles/glasses and not warp. Still scares me not using coasters on it, but it still looks new
