Webber signs new Red Bull deal

Mark Webber has signed a new contract with Red Bull for 2013, ending speculation he will move to Ferrari.

Off the back of winning the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Webber has committed to a seventh year with the team. He had been linked with a move to Ferrari to replace Felipe Massa, but having closed the gap to championship leader Fernando Alonso with Sunday's victory Webber said that he feels comfortable with Red Bull.

"I've been with Red Bull Racing since 2007 and have achieved nine grand prix wins during that time," Webber said. "I'm high on confidence at the moment and firing on all cylinders. I know the Team well and I'm very comfortable here; we have grown together over the years and it feels like absolutely the right thing to stay with Red Bull for another season.

"The Team is constantly working hard to improve in all areas and we've shown that together we can win races. It's great to be able to make this announcement off the back of the win in Silverstone at the weekend and I'm looking forward to competing on the edge and pushing myself in every race again next season."

Webber did admit, however, that there had been some foundation to the Ferrari rumours: "There were discussions with Ferrari, but my decision was to stay here."

Team principal Christian Horner insisted at Silverstone that the team wanted to stick with its current driver line-up, and he said that Webber's success in 2012 so far made it an easy decision to extend his contract.

"Mark has driven very well in the first nine races of this season and his performance has been impressive," Horner said. "Much of his Formula One success has been during his time with Red Bull Racing and together we have achieved 10 poles, nine wins and 31 podiums. As there was a strong desire from both sides to continue the partnership, it was a logical decision to extend our relationship and it is with great pleasure that we confirm Mark will drive for us in 2013."

The new deal means that Red Bull's driver line-up of Webber and Sebastian Vettel will remain unchanged for a fifth consecutive season.

even though there was the Ferrari buzz, i think everyone saw this coming. after all, why would he leave? for an inferior car and half empty promises for a strong one next year? i'd guess RBR is the best bet for the best car in 2013. one word: Newey.

now onto the Hamilton contract. he's putting public pressure on McLaren to see how they respond to his comments. this could be interesting.

He really doesn't have many options, it's a done deal at McLaren.

The real question is who would they replace him with and would they be willing to place their championship hopes on Super Smooth or should I say Super Slow this season....

Wow! Didn't see that one coming! Good, McLaren has an old debt to settle with Kimi called a WDC. They can trade lotus one for one straight swap.

i think it is just a ploy to get what he wants from mclaren. scare them if you will.

lotus does not have the money to throw at hamilton. i forgot kimis contract(length) but they would have to pay him out as well.

i hope ron dennis does not go for this and succumb to his demands. there are other drivers ready for f1. as martin whitmarsh said in so many words or less.......... hamilton is not that stupid.

it would be a shame for hamilton to be so big headed and ruin what he has. well i guess he has more important things to do like run with the olympic torch and hang with rappers.

    Really????

I just wish, for ONCE, you'd recall your days in elementary school and use proper punctuation. Maybe you could even just capitalize the first word of a sentence. (And before you ask, "No", I am NOT a charter member of the Grammar Police.)

As for the actual content of your rants and run on sentences, I have no words. Well, maybe one word: WOW! Make that two: SHAM WOW!!!

The good news is that you seem to crack yourself up as evidenced by your excessive use of the laughing emoticon. I wonder if there was a hidden meaning behind that and the "rapper" reference? Actually, I don't really wonder. It has been clear and evident by the tone of your stereotypical posts.

Speaking of crack, you might want to put on some shorts, and put down the crack pipe while on the internets.....

Ha...owing Kimi probably 2 WDC! Lewis would be crazy to go to Lotus. yes, they have a quick car this season, but what is the deal with the long term nature of the team. I would bet McLaren have a better chance at a producing a quick car next yr and the yrs to follow than Lotus. His only real chance at calling McLaren's bluff would be a drive at Ferrari. I know, crazy talk, but not unheard of.

Really? Don't forget that the Lotus team is the same team that won the Championship in 2005 and 2006 while beating a not-so-sloutchy Ferrari/ Schumacher combo and Kimi/ Montoya/ Mclaren the year before!!

There are many that would argue that Lotus are for real and not just lucky this season. Someone like Hamilton could easily be leading this championship in a Lotus this very minute!!

Ironically the "Kimi debt" that is to be settled is due to this very (Lotus) team snagging the title from them in '05!

I agree that Lotus have the structure in place to be a very competitive team. However, Lotus seems to be in a constant state of flux as to who owns them and who provides the actual money to the team. I will agree that they are a legitimate contender if they can have constant funds to support the team.

Thank you for the compliment, unless, of course, you are significantly past your early 40's. But then again, based on your extreme investigative skills, you probably also know my date of birth....

This one a is bit baffling considering the fact that I am not an American. (You should know this by now). As far as being angry? I'm usually not an angry individual. But, one can always try to improve on one's disposition. So, I will work on that. Thanks.

Well, we do agree on one thing. This is for F1 discussions, not my bashing post.. nor yours... because either one of us had a bad day.

Hmmmmm???? I'm not sure exactly where you're going with this one. Care to visit? To discuss F1? You probably already know this considering you looked up my residence, but I have an iRacing room equipped with a PlaySeat, The Perfect Pedal and force-feed steering.....and I have the Williams F1 car in my iRacing garage. If you wish, you can race in my room..... I don't mind.

I guess you must've seen my photo after perusing my company's website. I must admit that the picture you saw of me was definitely NOT my greatest.... And for the record, despite my outer appearance (must be the Caribbean sun), I'm not the biggest fan of rap music.... Reggae maybe. If you had made negative references or allusions to Bob Marley, Jason Mraz, Seal, Sade or Sarah Maclachan...then that might have been a different story.

Certainly you're not watching me?? I sure hope you have more important things to do than watch me....or my co-workers??? Please tell me you do?

I agree to attempt to keep the topics F1-related. Rap is okay with me too. Hell, many times we all go off topic a bit. That's okay with me as long as members have a thick enough skin to not take too personally the, often times, stinging and sarcastic rebuttals that ensue in literary form. (Fortunately for me, I type what I feel and would say the same thing if the intended audience were in my presence.) I can handle sarcasm.....I can handle disagreements. Most members would agree, however, that resorting to threats or attempting to instill fear is uncalled for and totally unneccesary.

And for what its worth, I will be sure to have a good day.....as long as this REALLY is the end of THIS!!!

Have a great day........ 'cuz EVERY DAY is a GREAT DAY!!!
