If you hit the bottom of your oil pan, you may have bent the oil pump pickup. I'd say start by dropping your oil pan. And you should have switched your ignition off the second your oil pressure warning light came on...

So, I've been out of the vw game for way too long, and this past weekend i went to change that by getting a 98 gti vr6. It ran great for the first day and a half, but on my way to a friends i go over some railroad tracks and hit them a lot harder than i thought i would, immediately the oil light starts flashing, 30 seconds later i pull over, the car ruining fine the whole while. We get out to check the oil and it looked about fine. I decided another half court more couldn't hurt, and while adding it the car starts making a nasty knocking, pretty load too. Shut it off , and got a tow. It hasent been started for more than 30 seconds since, the whole while making this knocking. As best as i can tell its from the top end. It starts up fine, and its not leaking, it dident overheat.
I got the car Saturday morning, this all happened Sunday night, i get off work at 3:30 am after 10 hours and gota work this Saturday, im pissed and im tired and im just bitching. Anyway does anyone have some advise as to where i start looking on Sunday?

And by bent he means shattered as the pickup on the pump is cast aluminum and will not bend.
The pickup rides pretty much on the bottom of the pan. Ive seen many pans with worn paint on the inside from where the pump made contact.
Forced convection.... Now we grillin.
Some times she goes, some times she doesn't.... Way of the road

Your noises/symptoms are exactly what happened when my intermediate shaft snapped, causing the oil pump to not work.

Only time will tell i suppose, im gona try and get over there tomorrow, but its on the other side of town AHHHHH!!!!

finally got the day! drained the oil and removed the pan, low and behold, the pump is cracked in 3.
now comes the delema on what to do with the car, ill get the oil pump and all, but this car has not been the diamond in the rough i was hoping for, its just kinda rough.
the major issue is........
its got a rebuilt title, i had no idea at first (i know, my own fault), but it is what it is.
the cars not the cleanest, interiors kinda shot, and it needs trim and paint......... the motor ran great before the oil pump......i was gona put some money/work into it and make it nice, but its tough to do when its not even got a clean title........ im torn between trying to just sell it and maybe making some money back while im ahead, or kinda rat roding it and doing everything on the supper cheep-o, and maybe it'll be a good car after all.
i dont know im just focusing on getting it back on the road, but any thoughts or other ideas on what to do with the car, what other failers i might expect due to no oil flow would be awesome....
thanks for your help, you guys hit it on the nose!!!!

If the motor is good gut the slap a cage in it and work the motor and call it a day
