Thread: New to Touareg, question... Why no more V8 or Air?

  1. 07-11-2012 03:29 PM #1
    i purchased a new/used/CPO/demo 2007 Touareg with only 10k miles. V8, loaded, with Air.

I did not realize the sales person was actually so correct that it was a great vehicle. no more V8 or Air...unless you buy a Porsche Cayenne S.

Why did VW ditch this? cost? These Touaregs seem to be in demand from reading your posts.

Well the V8, as wonderful as everyone says it is, just isn't too fuel efficient.

And I believe that air suspension was one of those goodies that just became too cost prohibitive when sending these things over to the US. I'm sure it's still offered in Europe.

    Just my take.

De-contenting - only way to stay competitive in terms of price in the US market

And a major reason why the apparent cost our vehicles is 2/3rds of what they cost on the EU, including DE.

It's not just VW. The Audi Q7 no longer has a 4.2 V8. Supercharged V6 or TDI.

What were the official HP/torque numbers for the V8? I keep reading conflicting numbers...or did they change at various points?

    Exactly
Decontenting and reducing weight in the name of fuel efficiency are difficult to distinguish
And V8s are conspicuous consumption in this era, so if you can drop the change on the highly optioned CS that's the least of ones worries

Depends if you have the Port Injection (310hp) or Direct Injection (FSI/350hp) engine.

Port Injection years were 04-06 and FSI were 07-09.

Where both of the variations of the V8 belt driven? I've seen the scary chain system on the 4.2 audi s4. Are they the same engine on the fsi?

They are the same motors since it is an Audi motor. Chains only in the FSI as far as I know.
