not looking for tough trails, but something i can drive my suburban asphalt crawler down (outback) and get her muddy. not looking to rock crawl but really take it off road through some mud, maybe some big hills, dirt trails etc. does that sound like something that is available close to NYC? (within an hour) preferably some with camping spots available! it can also be a distance trip (something I can do in a long weekend!

(do these types of activities even exist?)

EDIT -ok some moderator decided to move the original thread to the tristate forum which gets as much action as Andy Dick. so i am changing the places from tri-state to pretty much anywhere!

bagels will be rewarded if you have pictures of you or friends doing what im talking about. sort of like an urban safari in a large outdoor area. (think car camping but closer to civilization)

Detroit, Buffalo, Cleveland. All urban off-road wonderlands. The police barely even care. Semi-serious.

Do some poking around. National parks will have fire roads that can be done pretty easily. I used to do this in WVa with my allroad and Outback all the time. If you are going on your own, screw the recovery point in the front and rear bumpers, buy a strap or two and then buy a hand winch.

    Better over than under prepared.

Willets Point. The Iron Triangle just north of where old Shea Stadium was. Haven't been there in years and last I heard, King Bloomburg wants it redevelop into affordable housing or something like that, so he's been trying to get it shut down.

Lots of craters filled with layers of oil, antifreeze, and water. Each crater is a surprise because you don't know how deep it really is.

i know the area pretty well, and it really is as bad as it looks, lots of potholes and i wouldn't consider them potholes, more like road damage caused by the constant flow of construction trucks coming through the area.

bonus points for the movie that featured illegal immigrant kids stripping cars and living in the back of a mechanics shop. they eventually saved enough money to buy a food truck that was junk, sister was a hooker (young girl like 15-16years old) to the truckers driving the big rigs.

really depicted the area from back in the 1980's/1990's

    Wrong.

This is NY. Beautiful residents and well groomed horse meat.
